I recently purchased my second KX 500. It had issues when I bought it, he crank has side to side play which I know usually means a spun bearing or such.
I can't for the life of me find a crankshaft for an 88 model.
Any info on compatability,if anybody has one they could get rid of, or any suggestions on what I could possibly do to get this bike running would be much appreciated.
Thanks!

I have cash in hand and willing to pay top dollar for one if somebody has one.

Any year crank will fit the 88 88-2004
86/87 u would also do but you would need the primary gear / nut / keyway
86 is heavier
U could weld/regrind the journals on your own crank
IT also could have spun the bearing in the cases

Are you sure? Has anybody done this before? Just don't wanna dump more money and have it not work out. Thanks!

Dave916 knows a lot about the 86-88 500s. I asked him so many questions when I was building mine. The 88 motor actually shares a lot with the 89 and up motors, with the cylinder (KIPS) being the major difference. The cases are pretty similar too. I actually bought a set of 89 and up for mine to keep as a spare set (thanks to Sandblaster). The 86-87 motors have a lot of similarities, but not much carries forward to the newer models besides the cylinders, which can be made to fit.

Yes i am 100% sure any 88/2004 crank will fit / {Circlip primary gear }
88 looks a little differant because of balance holes on ether side rod conrod /89on crank is just countersunk more in that area {they are the same weight}
Probably 70% of all secondhand kx cranks will have a worn journal/ look for shiny journal

Thanks! Found a new 89-04 crank assembly for about 500 so I think I'm gonna try to go with that.
