Title: bolt on kickstand
Post by: Suicycle on January 29, 2003, 12:07:33 PM
does anybody know of one?  msr says they make one for all kx models, but i can't find anyone that can verify this.  and everybody makes a clamp on.  trail tech doesn't yet have one and moto billet or something like that has one on the way.

does anybody have one or nobody uses them......help.  i ride with a bunch of lazy fourwheelers and they stop all the time.  just makes breaktime a lot easier.

no man that was a clamp on.  looks like a wart on swingarm.  bolt on  stands remove  a peg and wedge in behind it with longer bolts.  looks like something factory on  and xr ar wr.  clamp ons are a dime a dozen.  functional but way ugly.

i made a bracket [similar to bracket on wr426] and slightly modified a old rmx kickstand i had laying around.kickstand bracket mounts to frame not to swing arm.it was fairly simple and works great.i'll take a couple pictures and post them.hopefully that will help.

Funny thing.... I can't even see mine when I'm riding!  It's a Utah stand.

After 5 yrs with Harley crowd, it's kinda funny to see how much dirtbike folk care about the looks of their bikes.  I've always been a function over form kinda guy.  (But I did replace the butt ugly purple shrouds that came on my KX.)

Hey Kxtaz, pretty slick setup.  I have been looking for a kickstand for an older guy I ride with, but neither of us much care for the clamp on style.  Think I will build one of these to see how we like it.  However, to save me some time, how long is your kickstand from the center of the bolt to the end of the stand leg?

Thanks

Rick

Thanks kxtaz,
Now all I have to do is find a kickstand long enough. I went to my local bone yard the other day and they had about a truck bed full of kickstands, but they were all about 5 to 12 inches long. Although, that looks almost simple enough to make the whole thing.

Looking through this thread again as I am getting sick of leaning my KX against walls and not wanting to add unsprung weight to the bike (SM wheels and tyres have added quite enough already) I am going to get my lazy arse into gear and make a copy of the one that Kxtaz has done.

I alread have a sidestand to weld onto the bracket but am curious as to how high does the sidestand go when it's folded away?

Does it go up till it's almost in line with the rear subframe like some KTM seem to or only about in line with the swingarm as many roadbikes seem to?

Also I see that it has a spring but does it have any kind of clip that stops the stand from kind of flapping up and down when you riding over bad bumps/ landing after jumps?

Cheers, Scott :)

Any owners of the Utah clamp stand...does the chain hit the top of the clamp?  I see that utah doesn't offer one for the kx5.  What model did you order for...250?

What about the any of the clamp on types does the chain interfere?
