steelwire wheel , 3m scotchbrite pad and wd40 ... but there is a good way to prevent this bad rusty conditions.. spray it with wd40 or better put weapon-oil on it with a towel after every ride and clean ...my dep-works-pipe had a interesting llightbrown patina by the time

Nice guys! 8-)

Steel with rust from the inside out if you clear coat it... Not a super good idea. But nothing beats elbow grease and hardwork with some scotch bright to make a pipe shine.
-
I usually pull out the wallet and buy a nice shiny new one...can't get a much better look....and no "elbow grease" required.
-
Lol.... Yeah, it's hard to beat a new pipe...
-
...lol A-men
I do use a scotch-brite pad and lightly go over em with a lil WD on occasion though...but scotch-brite pads and steel wool actually dulls the finish if used constantly...so I try to keep it to just a damp cloth and wipe off the dirt.

My pipes look good for years.
How?
I store inside where it is dry.
I'm not a rock hopper :-o
When done riding, I wash my bike, dry the pipe, then wipe it down with wd-40.
Sure, it smokes a bit on start up but it's a smoker right?

+1
my fmf has been on my 500 for 5 years now...zero dents, zero rust....the PC on my 250 is exactly the same way after 4 years.

Here was my last K5 right before it was stolen.
That's 12 years old..

cool...I can guarantee mine'll look like that in another 6-7 years too
not to get off topic, but...
what I'm really amazed at...is how awesome the SuperSprox I threw on 3 years ago are holding up!!!....there's absolutely no wear on either of them.
Alward25 was right when he said I'd never have to buy another rear sprocket!
