hi ive just bought a 1988 kx 250 imported from america and on inspection it needs a new cylinder due to some poor porting work.what other year cylinders will fit so i can get searching
-
Other years may interchange besides what Kawasaki says but the issue will be the exhaust valves.
You will need the exhaust valves from whatever cylinder you decide to try.
CYLINDER 1542 FITS 88 KX250 11005-1542 BORE 66.40 STROKE 70MM
EXHAUST VALVE CENTER FITS 88 KX250 - 12005-1116
EXHAUST VALVE LEFT FITS 88-89 KX250 - 12005-1099
EXHAUST VALVE RIGHT FITS 88-89 KX250 - 12005-1100
A bad port job can be welded up and re-ported...

the port job is not looking that bad it has been ground around the inlet port and the transfers have been hollowed out and i think you call it knife edged.the biggest problem is the nikasil or chrome plate has worn through on the 2 small port bridges on the inlet where work has been done so i dont know if its as a result of the work as i have nothing to compare it to.there were some other odd modifications made including a boost bottle and the reed block has been hacked about so havent got any faith in the work.i will try and get some pics when ive cleaned the cylinder up show you what i mean.

If you want, send me pics of the damage as well as the porting to kxguru@bikerider.com
I'll post it up and tell you what I think.
A good plating shop can repair an amazing amount of damage.
