Title: 87 kx500 vs 89+ era (parts interchange)
Post by: Henkies on June 14, 2017, 04:52:36 PM
Hi,

I can buy a '87 KX500, but have some doubts because it's a one year model.

Is it really impossible to interchange most of the parts with the 89+ years?

I would do a complete rebuild, so that would be good to know in advance.

The bike currently is torn apart, so I can visually inspect all parts..

Thanks!

The 87 and 88 are both one year wonders, but the 88 parts can be used in later model cases. The 87 parts can not. If you can find an 89 and up, it would be better for parts availability.
