I almost spend $7,000 on a KTM 525 the other day but could not let my K5 go so easily. I was looking for the most poerfull new CA green sticker bike availalbe. The 525 was it but still does not mesasure up to the K5
SO....
In a quest to ride with some modern ergos Im trying to find the slimist, lowest tank seat combo that will fit? I like to get up on the gas tank when cornering. I can handle a 2.5 gal tank too. My longest rides are 40-50mi. I love the Judal tank but its not worth $400.oo I also like the 89 tanks but can not find one anyplace.
It looks to me that some of the later 80s tanks are slighly lower than my 1999 k5s. I also like the look without the big old hump.
Is the carbon fiber tank on the Green Monster just a duplicate of a modern kx250 tank? or is this its own unique design?
Can you take a 2000s tank seat and shrouds and make them fit a k5? Looks like some of you have done this with sucess.

Doordie and I have the KX250 tanks from 89. They fit straight on. They are not as high as the KX5 fuel tanks. The only issues are the radiator wings which does not have a flush fit with this combo. Check out eBay...
Look at Doordies album since I don't have any pics on my bike with the "new" tank.

I bought a 1999 frame and put my 2003 motor and suspension on it so I could have the coveted Green Sticker here in California. It was worth every penny! :D

Ok I'm seeing a lot more pics in the gallery of 500s with modern ergos, a flat tank and 250 plastic conversion. I want to do this too! The Zip Tye tank is a good start but how about a 3+ gallon tank that works with a modern 250 seat/Plastic. I absolutly love the "Re-built KX 500" bike in the gallery., however my average ride ouwl exceed the range the Joudal tank provides.
Im going to experment with some 250 interior framed tankes from the 90s and will post any positive results.
