Title: stock reeds or Boysen?
Post by: 1980mcneil on April 08, 2017, 01:58:04 PM
Through my searching the forum I've come to these conclusions in order of performance gain..?
1. V-force 2 = best performance option  $250 or so off ebay.  Custom billit 1/2"spacer.
2. Rad Valve = $170+reeds. Maybe $230?
3. Boysen "performance" reeds and "stock" replacement reeds $40-$70
4. Stock reeds (partzilla) $26 for the pair

Is that about right?
I don't have the cash for the Vforce2 or boysen (maybe next year. Looks like the vforce wins for $20 more)
I did pick up a Moose spacer.  I haven't looked at my reeds yet, but I'm going to replace them either way.  I believe they have been on the bike since it was new.
Other than correcting my conclusions above for next year.  Are the Boysen stock replacement reeds an actual upgrade from Kaw-stock reeds when coupled with the moose spacer?
do all the boysen reeds work with the stock valve and the RAD?  Which are considered the best replacement?  there is like 5 different ones.

Thank you.

It all depends on the performance level of your engine, your riding style, along with the pipe style.
But biggest bang is the VF2.
I can sell them new for 168.00 delivered in the USA.
Regardless of which reed you choose, get a reed spacer..

I don't know that the boyesen replacement petals are better then stock but they are almost certainly better then the worn out ones you likely have on your bike.

Thank you.  That sums it up pretty well.  Looks like I will be coming to you in the future for the V2.  Until then I will just pick up some new stock reeds and use my moose plate.  👍
