Has anyone else got on the Reservation list with Panthera for an electric start for the KX500? I reserved mine a few days ago. They seem to do nice work on the CR's and starting to do the KX's. Hopefully they'll do billet cases soon. I don't know when they are doing a production run but I'll keep everyone posted.

If you can't kick it over you don't deserve to ride it.
-
Lol I knew someone would say that. I've been riding bikes for over 40 years and riding 500s for over 20 years. I travel all over the east coast and we typically ride 12-16 hour days. I'm older now and like the idea of the E-button on my favorite bike.

On another similar subject... Two of the three shift forks are no longer available... :-o :-o :-o
-
Which forks are unavailable? I was just getting ready to order a set as spares.
-
13140-1058 and 13140-1059
-
Thanks. I just ordered the available one and will look for the other two used.
-
Just a thoguht... even though Kawasaki no longer has them does not mean that someone doesn't have some new ones somewhere in stock...
-
I actually ordered all three from Partzilla and we'll see what happens.

the guy I ride with has the starter kit for his cr500, it works great. They told him it was some of the first shipped to the US. It works great! The only issues he had is that the cheap crappy solenoid it came with was a cheap lawnmower one and it would stick! After installing a nicer streetbike one from cycle gear it has been fine. The only other issue is that it sheered off 2 keyways, they emailed out a notice to increase the torque specs on the flywheel to correct that.
-
Glad to hear he likes his starter. Hopefully they have the bugs worked out of the system now. Wonder if the new flywheel uses factory timing marks. I'll post up every thing I find when I receive mine.

They do not use the factory timing marks, For now you will need to set timing with a timing dial indicator.

Partzilla is out of the two shifting forks Sandblaster mentioned.
-
Yup... I may have failed to mention that I had two sets on order with them... And I received my ACCESS DENIED email this morning :-o
-
I just ordered from Kawasaki parts house. Maybe I'll get lucky.
-
sounds likes the parts are drying up ,oh well you got 2 choices get the parts made or buy new 450 , :-D
-
I agree. I'll get the parts made. I've bought a few 450s and I still like the 500 better than any other bike I've owned. Hopefully others with the skills will reproduce the parts we need to keep the 500s alive.
-
I heard rumors that AJ at Service Kawasaki is working on some like they have for the CR500's...
But if not I will look hard at getting some made or developing a way to repair the old ones.

so with the questions about available parts from Kawasaki I am a tech at a Kawasaki dealership and can easily check on OEM availability and even if any are available on other dealers' shelves with the Lightspeed dealer locator. I found an out of circulation trans gear from a different dealer that the parts guys had never seen before lol.

Our new best friend. Lol

I would imagine you could sell a lot of KX500 parts on here if you can find NOS pieces. The transmission gears would be another hot seller.
-
My company just moved into a new office and our new neighbor is a machine shop. I spoke with the owner and he'd be willing to look into making anything if the price was right or there are enough pieces. He claims he has capability to make cases. We'll see how this works out.
-
is there no one else on here that works at a Kawasaki dealership? :? or a dealership with Lightspeed period? A lot of minimum wage parts counter guys don't know anything about the dealer locator that will show if a part is in stock at other dealers around the country. Go ahead and ask the kid at the counter and see if he knows about it. NO ONE at our dealership knew about it when I showed up...
-
I received an email from Panthera that the electric starter is ready for production. Should be about a month until I receive it.
-
where can I get other elements needed (battery box, wire , etc...)?
what are you using guys?
