Title: Newer Forks on 89 KX 500
Post by: 510rider on December 09, 2016, 02:35:54 PM
I want to put some modern forks on my 89 KX500.  I have found threads about getting a triple tree from a 97-04 KX 500 and bolting them up.  However, I can't find them.  I did find clamps and forks from a 04 KX 250.  Any idea about these forks and what would be involved in mounting them??  Any info would be appreciated.

U want the latest , get the triple clamps of 97 - 04 clamps then get a set of showa forks of 15 -17 kx450 which slide straight in convert them to a spring set up , and while you at it get the front wheel as well then you have the 270mm rotor , added bonus gold valve it as well so you can put your personal valving in. there other models front ends that work to and be cheaper just remember to try to get the whole front end , if you use a older model put a oversize disc on it , on a 2000 kdx 200 i have i used a braking bracket of a kxf 14 model to suit a 270 mm rotor then got a custom made rotor made on a water jet cutter , with the right pads its 2 rungs up the ladder better,

The last years of the conventional cartridge forks were really pretty good.  Have you thought of having them revalved by Race Tech or someone else?  If you are looking for a more modern look or just want want USD forks, then I would look for some KX500 triples.  With the KX250 triples, you will most likely need to press out the steering stem and install the KX500 one and you may run into clearance issues.  The KX500 ones will bolt up, and they do open up your world to a lot more fork choices as KXDINO said.
