So I have a cylinder off a 1998 that has some wear on it.. Bores glazed and measures up a tad oval with a bore gauge and a micrometre. What I want to know is should I get it nikasil or put a LA sleeve in it?
The sleeve is definitely the cheaper option for me as I can do all the work myself but how well do they last? The options for overbores is always a good bonus for sleveing. I will also be porting the cylinder and setting the squishband on the head to 1.2mm. Using a 0.3mm gasket.
I ask this because no one I know has ever put a LA sleeve in a cylinder that was Nikasil or Electrofused.

You can run a sleeve with no problems.
They will wear out faster then plating but you can bore them oversize and drop in a new piston.
If you go the sleeve route, just be sure to give yourself more warm up time.

have it replated, powerseal charges like 184.00....plus the plating will last 10 timez longer.

I went with the plating option..... but i got it done here in new Zealand with a week turn around supplied with a wossner piston at a cost of around $500 USD.
Unfortunately if i was to send it to powerseal the price would be even more.
Nearly clocked up 20 race hours on the bike now so this cylinder is almost ready to be fitted. I cant wait
