A few years ago I was thinking about building my daughter another bike (she has a Kdx 220) but my kx500 is a little too much for her. She's in college now so she's away from bikes for awhile but I can't get it out of my head. Is it possible to sleeve a kx500 down to a 300? Would this not be a perfect bike for someone wanting less power? Thanks.

So the short answer is no. Build the KDX up or get a Kdx 200 and build that and install a newer Kx front suspension on it. They can make great power with some porting and carb mods. The Balance factor on sleeving down a K5 would be an engineering nightmare. The crank web on the K5 are designed for a 500cc piston. Is you remove a bunch of that weight it would rattle so bad would start breaking ribs just from the shaking that would follow. The KDX tweeked has a lot of potential. The 500 has a lot of low end torque that if you tune it right can be a very good bike to lug around but fun in the open when you want to punch it. I would rather ride a 500 than a juiced up 250/300 anyway. What year is the KDX?

The kdx is a 2000 and completely modded and has great power for what it is. Plus it's Street legal. I love my 500 and would not replace it with anything. I appreciate the response because it's been on my mind for a few years. I was mainly thinking about it because it would give me a reason to buy another 500 and spare parts would be compatible. Thanks again
