One of the previous owners of my KYB Kit suspension was not a big fan of using a torque wrench on the fork lug axle bolts, and now they are stripped on the non brake side. Would it be best to drill from the back side and put in an insert, or should I drill through the front side? Should I just omit the insert and drill it to a larger size? The bolts run straight across from the front of the lug, under the axle, and out the back. Here is a picture:

I'm only familiar with the studs they use on stock front axle fasteners. I've oveetirqued a few of those when I was just becoming familiar with the k5. O can't tell you the best thing to do but common sense tells me stay as close to the same as it was original. The less material you have to remove that's supposed to be there to get a solid " bite" again is what id do. But I'm not a master mechanic. That just seems the way to me.

Thank you for the advice b4himdude. I think you're right that the less I have to do that changes the structure, the better. Thankfully I was able to get the bolt to bite by threading the hole deeper and using a longer bolt. So far, so good!
