Title: 1987 KX500 exhaust valve questions
Post by: bryank30 on May 01, 2016, 12:42:52 PM
Howdy everybody. My first post. I will say I have 3 KX500's a 1987 a 1994 and a 2000. I picked up a clean 87 in January and it needed some tlc, one of the first things I noticed was the left exhaust valve was missing. I am just not seeing them on ebay. I did a fresh top end on it and removed the remaining one. I don't notice any difference. I'm about to order a fmf pipe for it and see if my power picks up some from the stock one which is clean and dent free.

welcome to the site bryan....there might be someone on here that either has a valve, or might know where you can get one, or a set.

post up some pics of your 500's when you get a chance!

Those are some clean bikes!  Have you done a lot of work on them?

I read somewhere on the site that a guy found a reproduction exhaust valve on eBay.  Let me see if I can find that post.

Member Tim Short mentions he bought a set of them on eBay.  You might shoot him a message and see if he point you in the right direction.

I like that 87 too! That was a real craigslist basket case. picked through a storage building to find all her parts. some idiot had painted the frame purple, and worked HARD to do it. Of course it got sandblasted and powdercoated. I bought that for 400 dollars and it had a new crank in her. Bad clutch cover had the magnesium cancer but I got it all sorted out. It has the most hit out of all the 500s I have. I wish I had done the gold rims but I was able to save 200 on silver ones.

next time you pull it outside, take some pics and post em up, it looks like brand new!....the '87 CR's were my favorite back in the 80's.
