Title: 125 KX power valves
Post by: vrum on March 30, 2016, 12:58:42 AM
My '92 125 KDX has the cylinder barrel from a '88 125 KX which unfortunately has broken power valves. KX power valves seem to be totally N.A. nowadays so can KDX valves be adapted to work in a KX barrel? For some reason you can buy new KDX valves but not KX valves. They have different part numbers so they are not the same thing but are they close enough so that some minor adaptation work would be a solution?

Went through this a year ago with my 89 KX125 rebuild.  I lucked up and eventually found NOS LH and RH power valves.   The 125 and KDX200 valves are different.  I bought some used KDX200 valves in hopes they would work.. nope.

There was a company in the UK with plans to start remanufacturing these old valves.. they were looking to snap up NOS valves to replicate.. can't remember the company.   Google 1989 KX125 resto vitalmx and I have a whole thread devoted to the powervalves.

How can I tell if my cylinder barrel was '88 or '89? As far as I know they look very similar. My barrel has numbers 1359 cast on it.

The power valves have different part numbers but are they still interchangeable (equal outside dimensions) between '88 and '89? If the only differences were just in the ports cut out dimensions then it might be possible to use '89 valves in a '88 barrel?
