Title: New guy with old KX
Post by: Flatwins on January 30, 2016, 04:37:00 PM
Greetings from Oklahoma.  I just stumbled across the board by accident and decided to join.  I have a pair of '89 KX250s, one being a complete parts bike in tubs and boxes.  The assembled KX hasn't been started in several years and I'm planning to get it out of the mothballs and see if I can get it fired up.  Last time I rode it, it did ok but the clutch basket is grooved pretty badly.  Over the years I've purchased extra parts for the bikes, mainly transmission gears.  I had some crazy idea about swapping in some of the optional gears and changing the transmission ratio a bit.  Probably won't happen as I have so many other projects going.  IIRC the Tecate and the KDX bikes had some gears that would fit in the KX so I have those transmissions somewhere around here.  Anyhow, glad to be here and I'll surely have questions along the way.

Welcome Flatwins!
there's a few good members here from Oklahoma, so you're in good company.
Our member Sandblaster may be able to help with some parts you may need along the way, as he owns a motorcycle salvage company, and helps out many members here with good parts.
I have read that the KDX does share some tranny parts, but I'm not sure of the compatible years...our member zz3gmc is a very good guy to talk to in that department, as I believe I've read a post by him, stating he's actually done it.

you can send Sandblaster a P.M. here...

and zz3gmc here...

then when you get a chance, post up some pics!

here's a "how-to"...

Where do you ride around Broken Arrow?  I've heard there are some riding areas on the river.

I really haven't ridden off-road in a number of years, sadly enough!
