I'm thinking about buying an oversized gas tank for my 03 KX 250/525, and I found an IMS on this site. Has anyone used them before?

I'm thinking about using the 05-07 IMS black 3.1 gallon model. For those who have the oversize tanks, does it increase the volume by resting on top of the frame rails, or does it follow the stock profile and just come up further than the stock tank?

Its increased mostly above the frame rails. Its not a direct bolt on but very close. You may have to space the tank up slightly, make a elongated bracket for the top front mount, The Clarke I use still has the front mount. The IMS tanks that Ive used on my 03 and 04 250s eliminate that front mount and use L brackets on the sides of the tank. Not sure if they do it for the 05-07 tanks as well. I very slightly heated and reshaped the tank above the spark plug for clearance. Im also running a shorter plug. I can still swap the tank back to my 07 250 w/o any issues.

Gotcha. I was worried about my coil hitting the tank somehow. Where did you get your tank? They have them at Rocky Mountain, but not in black. I just don't care for the clear tanks after they age for a while.

We bought all of our tanks from our local Kawi dealer.

I went ahead and ordered the IMS tank from Just Gas Tanks. I'll let you guys know how it turns out.

I got my tank in yesterday. It arrived sooner than the original estimate, and I was very pleased with the price and service.
