Title: 1988 KX 500 foot pegs and frame
Post by: Chrisgg90 on November 22, 2015, 12:14:33 PM
Hey,

I've just got a 1988 KX 500 ( Mrs got me it for my 40th birthday ). I used to race them back in the day I had 4 from 1990 to 1999 but always changed every couple of years. I've been desperate for another for a while now to get racing the evo class. The bike is 99.9 percent restored but still has the original foot pegs.

I want a set of wide pegs for it what do you guy fit. I take it modern KX foot pegs don't fit it ?

Also I have the chance of a spare 1996 frame is there any major difference between the 88 and 96 frame IE could I switch my engine over from the 88 to the 96 frame if I needed to.

Thanks Chris

beautiful scooter!...congratulations!...and welcome to the site!
I know there's a few threads on modifying/installing wider, more modern pegs in here...just use the sites search option in the blue menu tab located at the upper left corner.

Nice bike thats  the way a kx500 should look

88 and 96 will be very similar frame/ only slight differences
The motor would bolt straight in but the 2 front motor mounting bolts  will be a little big for the 88 motor  10mm vs 8mm[not a big issue}

They are a difference between the 88/96 bike though
The main ones are  Rear shock / linkages / swing-arm / wheels / front end
Motor are different/ 2valve vs 3 valve top end/ bottom end is similar/ crank gearbox, clutch parts are all interchangeable

Great looking bike man. Wish mine mrs was so good to me :|

On my AF i use  DRC pegs that are 5mm higher(1.75m and short legs).
And the work great. Found on ebay a kx500 set for $50,-
