Title: New guy From Austin, TX
Post by: freeriders98 on November 10, 2015, 09:07:57 AM
Hey everyone. I'm new to the Forum. Mostly stay on local forums and some on thumpertalk. But figured you guys can't be much worse :-P

Anyways I am riding a 2002 KX250 smoker set up for woods riding. I've had it for about a year now and have reluctantly fallen in love with it. I have been a Yamaha guy in the past, but I got a killer deal on this so I picked it up. And it has worked incredibly well for me!!!

Here she is in all her glory!!!

2013 front fender, 13oz flywheel weight, 12 tooth front, PC Pipe w FMF Turbinecore silencer and a trail tech enduro computer. I also have an IMS 3.2 gallon tank that I bought when we lived in Northern Nevada for bigger rides. But have no need for it down here in private landville Texas

Welcome feeriders98!  Looks like a really nice 02 you have there.  Did you have to do much work to it, or was it in good shape when you bought it?

Nice looking bike! Where abouts do you trail ride around Austin? I just recently moved to New Braunfels....

12 tooth front,

looks good.
after a couple days testing different gearing with these close ratio tranny's, I also found the 12 front to work best for my riding areas/style on my '00...my final gearing is 12-47.

I paid $900 for it and haven't touched anything major. I put the newer front fender on, and the FWW. I found out it had a 7oz on it when I went to install the 13oz. So I sold the 7 to help offset the cost. Other than that a couple rear tires, and just put new chain and sprocket on it. But over all the bike was in amazing condition for its age and has never let me down.

Charlie500-

I ride Emma Long (City Park) It has about a 6 mile loop, and if you ride with the right guys who know the area you can pick up around 10 miles in a "loop". Most guys will go out and ride 2-3 loops. It is all VERY tight technical riding. Almost entirely 1st gear. This place is great because it is free and right in the city basically. A group rides it every Wed. night.

Then there is Hidden Falls Adventure Park in Marble Falls. It is a great area with all sorts of riding. $25 for the day. But it has camping, showers, etc. Really nice set-up.

Down by you more there is ZARS which I haven't ridden yet but hear great things about. And also CTOR which I think is up on the North of Austin. Haven't been there either.

Check out TWtex.com and texasoffroad.net.

Foxx4Beaver-
I am running 12/51 and it works really well. All of our riding is really tight technical stuff so the low gearing helps out. I want to eventually put in the WR KDX trans, but that will be a ways off.
