Title: MPG?
Post by: Kaveman42 on June 16, 2005, 03:31:49 AM
Anyone know what the MPG are on average for the K5's? What do you guys get? I get some s**tty gas mileage. I got about 35 miles from the tank when I went riding on Monday. Yesterday I took it out and probably road half that and just about used the tank. Any chance Im running to lean?

Lean=better mileage,  what does your spark plug look like?

I mean Rich then. Not Lean. I need to check the plug. Ive only gone out twice with the bike so far. Ill probably check today if I get some time. I guess Im getting what you guys are getting. My tank wasnt completely empty when i did 35 miles. Im sure I couldve squeezed in about 10 more miles. I should probably buy an odometer/speedometer so I wont get stuck with an empty tank. Its kinda hard to guess how long ive been riding. Any suggestions?

When I go on rides that I think will deplete my gas, I bring a 4pint water bottle full of fuel with me in a backpack.

Jetting will help. My mpg was poor and got better with jetting. I'm still working on jetting.

Also check your float level and the condition of the float needle.  If the needle is worn or the level is a touch high you can loose a fair amout of fuel out of the overflow hoses while you ride.  Mine was doing it a lot last ride. Level is correct so I likely need a new float needle. Cam.

I ride with a GPS on the handlebar to keep track of distance.  I seem to get around 18 to 20 miles per gallon while doing easy paced trail rides.  My bike is jetted such that it crackles with a snappy throttle response.
