For various reasons not the subject of this thread, I am in no mood to cram a KX500 engine into an aluminum frame. That being said I sure would like to enjoy a narrower lower seat & a smaller more compact gas tank on my '98 KX500 while utilizing the OEM frame even if it was modified. I have done some research on achieving such a build and have found no relevant information to help me.
Below is a pic of what I would like to roughly achieve with my KX500. I would like to hear any info anyone has on this beside, "It can't be done."

Let me also note I wouldn't mind reducing the fuel capacity of my kx50 to 2 gallons or less.

someone asked this a few months ago(maybe it was you, I don't remember)...
but our member Neilios is the only one I've seen modernize a 500 similar to like you're describing.
I remember him saying the tank was a "one-off".
he was last logged in the beginning of this year...try e-mailing him.

89 KX250 tank will bolt on looks like it would be quiet a bit slimmer and lower above the seat / tank junction

Had a 89 250 tank on my k5 for a few years , no dramas felt good to ride with , ended up putting the stock k5 one back on liked the look of it better , 250 tank hanging of the trusses collecting dust now.

I'ts a Jadoul kit. Jadoul Motorsports is a companie in Belgium.
There kit is a special tank with instructions how to modify the rest.
Only the plastic of the tank doesn't like sand, it wears to much with the radiatorguards.
Some times on ebay europe you could find one.
And here on KXRiders there's some more about Jadoul.

yeah, there's talk of Jadoul over on Thumpertalk too...and I believe it's about Neilios bike as well.
I kinda like that look, using the K5 frame.
