Title: interchangeable jugs?
Post by: alexander-vmann on July 20, 2015, 12:45:22 PM
i keep discovering more and more about my bike, it is (suposedly) a 1993 kx500 but today i had a look at the number next to the clutch cover, i assume this is the engine id, i also noticed that the head and cylinder or ''jugg'' is a more squere like design then the newer round top? so i went on to oem-cycle idendification page, and if i understood it well enough the engine is actully a 88 if i remeber correctely the id number on my bike is ''kx500bec06269(0)''

however i got a clutch kit for my 93, wondering if it will fit now  :|

AND i also got a engine lying in patys wich i belive is the original engine, i wonder if i can but the jugg from the original engine on the 88?

any answers or clue's to solve this mystery bike of mine is greatly appriciated!!

from what i am led to believe and i do believe it correct . any where from the 1989 to the 2004 juggs/barrals are interchangeable. as far as the clutch you might as sandblaster he would know for sure. you may be able to swap the clutches. not so sure on the covers though.hopefully that helps you.

. not so sure on the covers though.

it looks to me like the clutch cover is the same, but i migth be sitting on two 88 covers, i looked at where i orderd the clutch kits and i say that it will fit 87-04, however i really hope i can switch jugs, or learn how to put together a bottom end :P

This is what I'm wondering. I have a 87 kx500 I want to restore/ modernize. From what I've read 87 had 1 power valve, 88 2 and 89-04 had the 3. I'd like to modernize... somebody's gotta know or have tried this

Somebody told me you can put a 3 power valve jug on an earlier bottom, but it takes a bit of modification.  Let me find the post.

alexander, the easiest way you can go is to find an 89-2004 crank case .. put your 87 transmission and crank in and the 93 cylinder on top and it is done.  8-)

the 86-2004 clutch cover has only one diference in all the years: the black color 86-87 ... an 88 bottom end has the exactly same inlets like the 89-2004, except the shorter second gear and its missing the 3rd hole for the 89-2004 kips..

i think the easiest (but not cheapest) way for me would be to send all the 93 parts i have to a workshop and have them rebuild it and find missing parts etc, at least that way i can have two engines  :-D

I found a brand new 88 cylinder for sale in Australia. With the Aussie dollar being next to worthless it might be an all right price for some out you guys out there.
