I contacted our supplier and as is understandable they do not have any control over what they get sent.
That is why I am not naming the suppliers name as they are good people.
However, they are going to contact Kawasaki and see if this is something normal.
Updates as they become available...

Waste of cash buying oem bearings for the tranny, even the one with the grove is 7ball instead of 8ball on most 6203/no grove

Yeah we know that we can get them cheaper at the bearing house.
Motorrad did a crossover list for the K5 which is very helpful.
So it looks like we are going to have to go back to buying them at the bearing house instead of buying OEM.
It just takes more time and some of the bearings are only available through OEM.
All because the pencil pushers are trying to save a few bucks over the longevity of our builds :x

There is a huge misconception that OEM means highest quality. They assemble their machines with quality enough to still make a profit. Aftermarket are made to meet or exceed OEM quality. If OEM was already the best no standard would need to be exceeded. Who knows how long OEM has been sitting in a warehouse, somewhere.
-
You need to watch your eBay / parts house sourced bearings too though. I bought FAG bearings from an eBay seller, Locatebearings , thinking oh yeah German bearings & when it arrived just China bearings in a FAG box. Really if you don't see in the listing the country of manufacture etched right into the bearing race , ask because ALOT of the quality brands are just boxing China made bearings.
& right on Locatebearings site counterfeit bearings

Aftermarket are made to meet or exceed OEM quality.
Cometic gaskets are a prime example of that.

No update was ever given on this issue...
So, I stopped using this supplier and started getting all my parts from our local Kawasaki dealer...
Guess what?
They are using the same Chinese bearing...
It says "CHINA" on the bearing and once again the packaging says "Made in Japan"

Come on Kawasaki.... :x :x :x :x

Yep... same as a year ago... LIES!!
-
wow that sucks! ofcourse you want good quality bearings! especially on older year models. but not everything from china is bad quality just like not everything from japan is good, but i agree it's dishonest an misleading to label the bearings wrong. is there another brand for good quality bearings? shouldnt any bearing work if you have the right specifications?
-
Of course your right... When I was a kid, all the cheap junk toys came from Japan :-D
The problem with Chinese bearings is that they do not follow in legal terms the same definitions for bearing type, that the rest of US, Europe, Japan, ect follow.
They can make a bearing and sell it to whatever standard they want to... and often do...
It's possible that under the NSK brand and hopefully NSK supervision, they are making a good product, time will tell.
I just don't want experiment with Chinese bearings in my builds.
If I did I would just get a Wiseco or Hot Rods kit and call it good.

i just orderd a new bearing along with a shiftshaft so that i can get the 450 shift lever, reading this makes me worried that ill get a useless chineese bearing, i might just be the guenie-pig for testing the chineese bearing :-o
-
The clutch pressure plate bearing is the only one we have seen like this.
All the others are Japanese bearings.

Just did a complete rebuild on my '04 KX300bb including all the bottom-end/case bearings, but I didn't check to see where the OEM bearings were actually made. We're about to go through the 500's bottom-end with OEM bearings, gonna have to check now. Chinese anything concerns me, but like prior said, there are build quality differences so not everything from China is straight junk, but believe me, it still makes me nervous. (Like why I'll never waste my money on any Hotrods crap)
