wiesco piston (stock bore)
Procircuit pipe and can
re jetted
55 degrees
600 feet above sea level
brand new rear slick
14/44 gearing and top power was at 63 MPH
60RWHP
does that seem right I was thinkin about 65
The tester didn't really wind the bike out and I think the rear tire wasn't hookin up.......my buddy has a done CRF450 and pulled 56, he said he usually gets 58 but the jetting was off a bit....
does all this sound right ???

If the cylinder, head, and carb are all stock; that is about right.
-
BrianSM,
Did you get a graph?
If so, could you scan it in a post it here?

BrianSM,
Show a graph!
It depends of many things as:
1)Wheel size.(SM-tyre 17" *160 runs heavy,better street-tyre 19" *110)
2)chain/sprockets.(many % lost with bad chain and sprockets)
3)A/F-ratio.(You need a O2-meter to get right)
4)Warm engine.(Warm oil and "cleaned" carb...)
5)Fuel.(old or wrong oktan)
6)........and more!!!
A KX500 stock and "blueprinted": approx..55rwhp(65hp at crank)
60 rwhp and rideable, not fantastic but sure okey!

I will try to scan the graph....its been awhile since I have scanned anything  Stock head and carb.....just re rung the piston...fresh fuel
premo pump /110 racetech fuel.....carb seems clean?, engine was warm prior to testing.......Now I'm gonna look for a O2 sensor, thanks for the suggestion.......................Aaaaah hell with it.... might as well send the whole thing to Pro Circuit and go for the 540 kit with some sexy porting.......

If you go with the big bore, make sure you have the crank balanced and welded too. Othewrwise, you'll have a lot of vibration and a bunch of bottom end problems. How do I know? Just ask my credit card!

BrianSM,
With stock squishclearance and compression ratio you get lower power
with higher fueloktan as 110 oktan.
(Slower flamefront in combustion and no real use of that higher oktan).
Put in a new headgasket approx...0,4mm and somewere around 100 oktan gasoline and ALWAYS measure squish clearance, not below 1,3mm or you got a "headbanger".

Doordie, are both those headgaskets off a kx500? They are very alike but have small diferences, is there two different cylinders and heads available for kx500, if so what year did they change and pro/cons of each. cheers
-
Thanks Doordie......so maybe If use less octane I should get another 5 HP !!!!!!! :) lol......hell at this rate I'll see 65 hp sooner than I think.....Thanks for your info I do appreciate it...I
-
Brett,
left, before 1989,
right 1989 and further...
Brian,
Yes, you CAN get more hp with less oktan, IF it?s tuned for a specified oktan!
BUT best is ,high oktan and right compression and timing for that fuel.

BrianSM,
Were is the graph?

I hope this is readable.......Ran 101 trick with Bel-Ray at 40-1 this past Sundays races...Best finish was a second, too hot in a corner in the rain and lost a spot, lead most of the race
with the new gas mixture I spun up the rear in the dry(afternoon mains) with rains on in third gear and crashed......Twice in the same spot, bike smoked less and felt like it had more pull, never pulled wheellies in 5th before, just needed a little clutch....so I'm on the right track
-
BrianSM,
Yes, right oktan and oxygenated fuel makes the trick.
You have only 10hp left now to the "Pro-tuners".....
No torque graph? :?
Anyway ,a good stabil dyno.
A/F ratio(lambda) is a good thing too when you go dyno. 8)

It was a Dyno competition and free....I won the singles category...I will get it dynoed professionally so I have a torque graph as well....
Then I will do the big bore kit etc...first I have to revalve and lower the suspension.....
