Hi i have a 1998 kx250 and the engine makes noises like a sewing machine.
Can i reduce that? The engine sounds great only that rattle sounds sick.
Thats not my Video but it's the same noise.

have you recently cleaned the KIPS valves?....
once they get cleaned of any carbon build-up, they get a little "loose", and yes...they can make quite a racket.
other than that, there's really not a lot you can do unless the valves, or the guides themselves are really worn...but it's pretty normal for them to be noisy.
If you use the sites search option, and type in "KIPS rattle", or anything like that, you'll find several threads on the subject.

No i made nothing so far i bought the bike last saturday.
I thought some new parts could helpful but i remember that my new kx125 in 92 made the same noises.
Not really sexy. :-(

no it's not an appealing sound...but you get used to it.
you should've heard my 500 the 1st few rides after I went with the big bore kit!...Pinnsonault had everything so clean and spotless, it sounded like someone was smashing my cylinder with a hammer every time the throttle was opened and closed.
are you sure it's not "pinging" you're hearing?...it "can" be a similar sound to the KIPS rattling.

I'm fairly sure. Knocking or pinging sounds different. The engine runs great i only need one kick to start the cold engine.

if it'll give you some peace of mind, pull the jug and inspect the entire KIPS...if all checks out good, then learn to live with it....it'll be fine.

Can't find the right drawing for the 98 kx but what exactly makes this noises? The gear wheels and the "gear rack"?

the majority of the noise will come from the dums...numbers 19 and 20...as they turn
back and forth with substantial force...slamming open and slamming closed.
but again, if there's excessive wear on any of the other parts, the more noise will be made and heard.

Thank you!
Honda has more Levers. I saw an interesting Website at http://www.dansmc.com/powervalve.htm with different systems.
