Hello Everyone,
I recently purchased an 89 KX 500. One of the mods I want to complete is lighting. The stator plate on the bike has two coils. The lighting stator I ordered belongs on what they tell me is a later model stator plate. Mine appears to be the same as an 88 and older, no spare room for a lighting coil. My question is, can I use the stator assembly and flywheel for say a 90 on my engine? The only thing that concerns me is the flywheel. Is the crank the same across 88 to 90?
Thanks,
Steve

Yes, no issues with crank taper same all years
Issues u could have are matching stator wires to cdi
There are two slightly differant flywheel/stators 89on some have mountings for lighting coil and some Dont

Thanks for the help. Pretty sure I will have to get a new CDI like you said. The schematics I have found show the exploded view of both versions for 89. The CDI is different between the two versions.
Thanks again.
