Title: I can't believe it!!!!

Man, I can?t believe I did it!!!!!!
I?ve owned a lot of bike, and now when I have a big trip planed in 2 weeks is the first time I strip out a drain plug!!!!
GGGGGGEEEEEEEEEEEEZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZ!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Ok, what?s next?
Helicoil, or just drill it out, and re-tap to the next size?
What would the next size be?
Any tricks or tips???

Drill it out and use a time sert for the original size plug.  That does suck.

You should be able to find one at an auto parts store.  It's like a helicoil but it's more premanent and solid.

Machine,
  Don't sweat it. I stripped mine right before a ride and wasn't even late.  The repair was easy. Here is what I did:

Lay the bike on it's side and tap out the hole to the next size for a helicoil.  It helps to coat the tap with grease to catch most of the aluminum chips.  Install the helicoil with red loctite.  Pour a liter of some cheap motor oil through to flush out any pesky aluminum chip that may still be in there.  Install the drain plug and lockwire it.  The lockwire is a good thing as you tend not to do the "hercules" thing when tightening it up (since it can't come out).  I've done sparkplug holes this way with good results too.  Good luck. I like the sound of the ?Time-Sert? and I will use Cam?s directions.

Now I just need to find a place to get ?Time-Sert? kit QUICK!!!!

Most motorcycle service shops have them on hand. I had my local Honda shop do it while I was on the way to ride. It took them less than 30 minutes.

The guy before me hosed up the threads so he tapped in a 7/16" machine thread which finally screwed up...... :roll:  Time serts as described are great !!! but try to find one ..... aircraft industry is where they come from....... as per the other post laying the bike down etc and using the heli coil.... thats exactly what I did.....I did that so I could re use the original style plug.......I put one wrap of teflon tape around the threads
and change my oil after every race style works perfect... no leaks...

I took it 2 the dealer! $70 bucks for a "Time-sert" installed!

That's my industry, and I looked @ McMaster Carr, Rutland, and MSS.
And no one had the time-sert.  ????
