So I bought an 86 KX500 and everything checked out, but when I got home there was a slob of JB weld covering the sprocket... so I chipper it away. The threads to hold the bolt on are no longer existent. Right now I have the cases split and cannot find a replacement. There is one on eBay where the threads were gummed up a bit and I dont feel like forking $200 for a crap part.
Any ideas on what to do? I was thinking about drilling the center and threading a bolt in and making a spacer. I would prefer not to weld the sprocket on.

I did some searching on this site and I could not quite find my answer. Could I swap a complete newer model tranny in this beast?

on my 86 I took my die grinder with a cut off wheel and with the sprocket installed cut a snap ring grove to make function like the newer models and has worked great for years
