Hello,
This question regards my 86 KX500. Parts?? When looking for parts most anywhere they always list the 88-04 KX's. In particular, I'd like to put a nice new pipe on it. Everything I see lists 88-04. First...will an 88-04 pipe fit an 86...without having to mod anything? What about other OEM parts such as brakes. Does anyone know if the piston from an 88-04 will fit the 86?

an 88-04 pipe will work, but it's not a perfect fit. I know there's a thread on here somewhere, where this was discussed. The mounting tabs on the pipe will more than likely need to be moved/modified and you'll want to keep an eye on the clearance between the pipe and the bottom of the fuel tank.
here are some NOS parts....check e-bay periodically for new listings...

You can use a newer double ring piston too, but be sure to check all the clearances there too(piston to cylinder wall, ring end gap)...if you're having it replated, just ship the new piston out to whoever is doing the plating so they can plate it to that size...or places like PowerSeal or Millenium can tell you what size piston you'll need after they strip the plating off/bore it, and they can sell you a piston kit themselves.

here's a list of custom pipe builders...a couple members have said Jemco was good, and also Custom Pipes Inc (C.P.I.).

Pro circuit still makes for the 86.
As far as brakes, more or less parts interchange up to 88. But it does not take much to install later model stuff on.

Lame.
When i built my last 86, i had found 2 i thought were 86 chambers, and went to pro circuits site to verify part number. Guess they dumped a bunch of older stuff.
Now that i think about that was almost 4 years ago!
Ebay is your friend for old stuff.
