I've got my '90 & '95 frames stripped and am wondering if there are any existing welds that should be completed, or any gusseting added or add a weld in skid plate to reduce flex or add rigidity? Will be using for MX and am wondering if any frame mods would reduce flex, vibration and maybe prove improve cornering?

Other than the post welded on for the steering damper and the guard added for the water pump protection, I don't see any difference from the stock frame at the steering head nor the area near the head stay. Am I missing something?

The t-mount where the sub-frame bolts on is gusseted, the rad tabs are reinforced, the mount between the upper exhaust mount tab and aft rad mount are tied together. There is not a pic but the lower RH pipe mount tab is gusseted too. There is also gusseting on the subframe.

Ok, no major structural mods then?
-
nope

Re welds all around. On factory bikes

I'm tempted to weld a stainless skid plate on (.035 wall) and add material to
motor mounts...
-
motor mount don't really break, there are a few good aftermarket skid plates out there
-
Thinking of welding on a skid plate to gain rigidity
vs a bolt-on

The supermoto guys seem to brace the the sump guard area of frame
Have a look at second picture tubing X bracing sump area
http://www.ktmforum.co.uk/supermoto/75177-2-stroke-wins-german-championship-race-s2-%3B.html
I have a cr500af gen 1 with a welded sumpguard ,easy enough to do with square tubing
Not sure if it help vibration
Good tip on any bracing weld here

really interest it bracing the frame in the motor are would help dampen vibration?

You mentioned cornering ',,,,I don't have one but there is a better dogbone made by Emig I think.
