I have a 1989 KX500 that needs a new frame, I have a brand new 2000 KX500 Frame from a perimeter frame conversion. Does anyone know of any issues I might face from swapping up to the 2000 frame (besides the State title issues)? From what I can find the frames only changed colors between 1990-2004.

Off the top of my head you shouldn't have any trouble as long as you are using all the parts off the 89.
Some of the parts don't play well together when you start mixing them up, but a fair amount do interchange.

the k5 is unchanged between 89-2004 except the newer brake-calipers , forks and different colours on seat and tank... there is no problem by interchanging the frames ...
at the moment i am looking for an cheap 87, 88 or 89 frame in any condition, for a new secret project ... 8-)

Gotta watch the swing arm that you use the correct rear brake caliper mount.
If your using all 89 except for the frame you should be good to go.

Since the KX500 did not come with a perimeter frame, is this a KX250 frame, by chance?
