Hi:
What are my options on trying to get an 18" rear wheel on my '03 KX250? I really don't like the idea of having to buy new rim and spokes and attempting to lace it myself...was wondering if other models like a KLX or KDX would have the correct hub and size? I've been looking on ebay, but usually the KX 18" wheel is from an early generation KX...would that work?
Thanks.

Warp9, Excel, Tusk...to name a few options.
-
03 uses a 25mm rear axle.
As far as I know, no other Kawasaki, kdx, klx, ect uses a 18" with a 25mm rear axle.
So, you would have to make modifications, adapters, or, take the easy way out as Foxx suggested and buy a Warp 9 ready to go.

I believe the KLX450 uses the same hub.
-
klx hub is the same a kx 450, list shows 03 kx 250 as the same as all kx/klx 450f, 250f, 03 and up 125 and 250.
how much u wanna spend? Getting a used one is rolling the dice and may cause more headache, I can get u a good deal on a new warp 9.
Hope this helps

If you are near NJ my wife can build you one.

what kind of warranty comes with that?
-
If theres a problem bring it back. Shes built quite a few rims for our bikes and for others. All of ours are converted to 18s and there have been no issues.
-
what brand of products are you guys using/offering?...or is it the customers choice of brand, and then she puts together what the customer has ordered?
-
We've always used excel rims with their spline drive spokes. We had a friend bring over a 05 KX that we rebuilt for him and he had another shop, we are not a shop by the way, lace up a Moose 21 and 18" rims. The Moose rims are not of very good quality and the shop really messed them up when they built/trued them. We get a good discount from our local Kawa shop so we can get most any rim/parts.

Thanks for all the suggestions. :?
This ain't NJ tho:

So, it sounds like you guys are suggesting to build one...that usually means $300 :-o
rim+spokes is already $200, then by the time I ship and have some build it...I am at $300
I am a cheap guy...so one idea is to get an 18" from a KLX? The KXFs are 19" ...

Ive seen your bike on TT! Yep your pretty far away!

Warp 9 can set u up, my current pricing is $290 plus shipping for a wheel assy ready for rubber complete with sprocket and rotor. I also get a better price on rims and spokes than $200. ZZ3GMC, I am not sure why people run spline drive spoke nipples but I hate truing with them, it takes more time than I care. The aluminum nipples that are spline drive probably don't round off as easy. But, if u run ss nipples and spokes it is not an issue.

What's the price w/o the rotor and sprocket?

Will a 2003 KLX300R rear wheel fit on my 2003 KX250?
-
Different axle size.
-
Ok, thanks for the tip.

Do you notice the difference between the 18" and the 19" is it much shorter.

The wheel is a smaller diameter but the tire stays the same size, meaning you get 1" more side wall with a 18 vs a 19
