So I just picked up another k5 motor and I have decided that I want to do the ktm conversion. If anyone knows of a good rolling frame for sale let me know. And any tips and trick for this build are appreciated
-
Whacha gonna do to the motor?
-
Prolly try to get motorad to build it. If not him then Pinsonnault Racing. No big bore just a stage 3 port job
-
And if this build turns out the way I want it I will have fuel injection on it :-D and lots of other fun stuff :-D
-
Nice, I hope the fuel injection works out well.
-
Yeah me 2 Its gona take a lot of tuning and time to get it right but I think its possible to have fuel injection and have it be reliable
-
What year roller are you looking for and where are you located, I have a line on a 14 250sx roller a guy wants to trade me for my red afc roller. He is in West Virginia tho so not sure I can get to it. I will hook you two up if you are interested.

Quick update motor should be here by Saturday. Its going to my local performance shop FTZ. They are supposed to be pretty good and the prices they quoted me for motor work were very good.
Frame is on its way as well. It is a 2009 ktm 250 sx-f with a title :-D . Once I have it in front of me I will start buying more of the necessary parts .
If anybody has any spare parts that will fit what I'm doing let me know and I might buy them off of you

Thanks to Alex ward and his brother I got a fresh batch of goodies in the mail today. A complete kx500 engine exhaust and electical :-D . Happy thanksgiving to me. It is currently blown up but its not in terrible shape as far as I can tell and with as much power as I am going to try to produce I would be rebuilding the whole thing anyway. Next stop ftz performance

Don't think I'm doing the fuel injection anymore after finding out that apt is right down the road from me I'm prolly going with one of the smart carbs. I talked to them last week and the way they have the Carb setup it can handle a turbo just fine
-
sweet, looks like you may have the small spline shift shaft.......

Anybody got a shock and swingarm for a 2009 ktm sxf?
-
Got a shock and a swing arm on the way... any suggestions for the front end? I was thinking Yamaha yz450 shocks. Do those make for good super moto shocks? And I'm looking at a custom triple clamp. What degree should I have it made at?

What factor did u balance at? and what year type cranks are they?
Be very carefull handling them as is takes very little to untrue a unwelded kx crank :-)
very little crank pin diameter in webs {about 15mm in kx/ a cr5 has about 22mm and a thicker pin, this makes the kx crank very easy to move out of true
a pic to compare

One crank is from a 94 the other is from a 98.
I had a shop do the work so I'm not sure what the balance factor is. The shop I had it done at was pinsonnault racing and he only needed to know what piston I was going to run and in this case it was a 86mm wossner

The cranks look a bit unusual with the alignment holes { seen these on works crank /think alward25 has one }
none of my 89on cranks have holes
most shops use 50% factor /sometimes the scib the info between the webs, can be hard to see
think motorrad had his crank done at 60%
always nice to know what factor your running and how it feels in differant chasssic etc
good luck with the build,

Went to assemble bottom end and I was missing a crank bearing :x have to wait on new ones to get here

I would Use oem crank bearings and I would not use lockite on crank journal flywheel side

Im using FAG bearings on this build

Im using FAG bearings on this build
You got to ask youself why do kawasaki charge you $40 for $10 bearing
ANSWER: kawasaki charge u $40 for $20 bearing :-D
koyo make differant bearings for crankshafts
-
I guess we will find out if the fags are up to the job since the one engine I'm building has a target HP of 140
-
140hp? :-o :-o :-o
Fag bearings are good quality.
I'd be looking at my rod as a point of weakness.

You and me both. Just remember that's the target HP... that's the number I'm shooting for but I'm not sure I can reach it. No promises I can do it but I am going to try

Hey dave916.
I see three that have had the intake bridges removed (CR500s....)
Ever tried it in a KX500?

The cylinder with no intake bridges are on 86 and 88{2] cylinders [look similiar to the cr5}
I Have seen on post 89 cylinder {540] with intake bridges removed {probably need more frequent piston changes}

88 intake

After a long wait I finally got my rolling frame in so more updates to follow when I have time to work on it more
-
I'm feeling a bit jealous.... :-P
-
To be honest I still can't believe its finally here because I have been waiting on it so long ... it has all sorts of goodies that I wasn't expecting
New front and back tires
Hydraulic clutch still on the bars
New air filter
New chain
Newish Billet stainless billet fastest pegs
Not a scratch on the swingarm or front forks!!!!
Only downfall is now I'm using an 06 chassis
-
So after a crazy year of work and not having time or money to build the rest of the bike I have finaly made a couple of steps in the right direction as far as getting back to finishing this build...
I was finally able to get my hands on a street legal frame and title so as to avoid any hastle with getting this beast street legal when it's all said and done.
Most of the bottom end parts for the motor are now in the shop waiting to be assembled...
Still have to build up some more funds and purchase a lot of parts...
Might be some time yet till I actually get the time to make some real progress on it but I will let you guys know when it happens
