I've had quite a bit of excitement regarding this machine.
Time will tell if it was a good investment.
I wrote some about it here:
http://www.oem-cycle.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=3&t=815 (http://www.oem-cycle.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=3&t=815)
Here is some pics of the machine.

I hope it turns out to be a good thing for you....and I hope you get good at it!
cause I'll ship some parts out to you to be done periodically! 8-)
-
I'm sure I'll be doing more then one demo :-D
-
awesome! already got my cases done but that machine works great!
-
The vapor blaster came in today ... Whoopie!!!!
Opened the back of the truck and found this.

Damage as noted so far...
Bent leg
(http://www.oem-cycle.com/forum/download/file.php?id=2615)
Glass pulled loose from the seal that covers the lights on the lid.
The top is bent

Wires were pulled loose from the electrical box
(http://www.oem-cycle.com/forum/download/file.php?id=2619)
Nice!!!
-
yup...might as well just pull your pants down and invite the seller/shipper to repeatedly kick you right in the balls!!.
I hate people so much....it's really a good thing I don't have the power of God, to chose who lives and dies...cause I'd be very lonely in this world.
-
No worries...
People ask me why it is so expensive to ship parts.
I tell them I have two prices.
Price #1 I'll toss it in a box, tape it up and hope for the best.
Price #2 Package it like a brick to take into account the idiots having a bad day at the shipping company.
-
hahaha...that's too funny....but oh sooooo true!
-
A bunch of junk from my junk piles..

Much more to come as I am just scratching the surface with how to use this machine..
-
I'll be learning the ins and outs for a while yet but this machine is already showing promise.

Looks great!!! Talk about shipping... Ordered some new pipes for the wife's ZX14R. They came in rubbing together in the box so of course there was a couple dents. Was negotiating with them for how much they would give me back when I realized the pipes were for the wrong year. Sent them back.
New set came in with expanding pour foam all around them and their plastic bags. Not only could they not touch I had a bit of a time getting them out! Would rather have that though!
Trying to think of what I need blasted. How abrasive is it? Or I should ask, how much material does it remove?
-
As near as I can tell it does not remove anything.
Everything I have read about the process states that it peens the surface metal but does remove anything.
This process was developed originally in WWII for rebuilding soft metal air craft parts so it works great on aluminum, magnesium, brass, bronze, and copper but also works well on stainless steel and titanium.
If you need something done Brute, degrease it first and remove any plastics or glass.
Here is a link to some of the applications:

-
jeeze, that PWK looks brand new!
-
Some alloys of aluminum clean better then others or are more shiny.
Also, I need to experiment with different blast pressure and media type.
But so far I'm pretty happy with the results.
-
(http://www.oem-cycle.com/forum/download/file.php?id=2645)
This was my initial clean up.
More will be coming 8-)
-
that's just amazing how new things look afterwards!
-
I'm still learning how to use it.
Which media, ratio of water to media, and air pressure are all important.
I'm going to glass bead blast some parts first and then vapor blast them.
It's suppose to make a difference for really dirty parts.
I also want to see if the Vapor blaster will remove material impregnated by air only blasters.
-
I know what i need blasted...... the missus
mind you she can be quite abrasive as well, i might ask her to clean my parts for me :-D
wierdo....
-
Living dangerous :-D

I have a proposal for any member...
Take a look at this head
(http://www.oem-cycle.com/forum/download/file.php?id=2759)
I want to experiment with a protective chemical called Sharkhide.
You can read more about it here:
http://www.oem-cycle.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=39&t=249 (http://www.oem-cycle.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=39&t=249)
Faq's from the manufacture is here:
http://www.sharkhide.com/mpfaq.html (http://www.sharkhide.com/mpfaq.html)
I want to vapor blast a head then coat it with Sharkhide and see how well it holds up on a bike with high heat.
If it does as I suspect, it should help maintain that bright finish for at least a few years.
Sharkhide is easily removed so that is not a problem.
If the coating does not hold up very well, we can remove the coating and vapor blast the head again.
So, if anyone is getting ready to build their engine, send me your head and I will do the work and send it back at my expense.
It will take a few days to get it done as I want to be sure the tank is clean before I start and I want drying time for the Sharkhide.
I can tell you that if you get gas or any petroleum product on a Sharkhide finished part, the sharkhide will come off.
So, lets go...
-
Thats awesome makes the parts look brand new maybe even better than new. Those calipers look great.
-
Yep...
I'm working on my next build so I'll be posting some results soon.
I just have to learn how to take better pics...
-

:-o
-
d**n skippy!!...that could just about pass as a brand new head.
-
I have a brand new set of K5 cases stashed away in the factory wrapping.
I pulled them out to compare with a vapor blasted set.
No comparison... the vapor blasted set is brighter and smoother.
I'll have to get some pics.
It's hard to believe till you see it.
-
well, if that's the case, the next time I tear my motor down...I just might have to send everything out to you, for a blasting!
-
Great!
I'll see if I can expedite some pics between the factory finish and the blasted finish.
-
Sweet!!!!!! Free engine parts.
-
When clean isn't clean enough...
Believe it or not, this was just out first clean pass.
I usually do it two to three times to get every last little gooey off...
-
now are you still gonna SharkHide it?...I remember you saying you were gonna with some parts.
-
Not these parts as they will be for sale in a few days.
But I will Shark hide my next head and cylinder.
Once I know how it performs then I'll decide if it's something I would recommend.
-
You need to change your screen name Mr waterblaster
-
It still uses glass... So glassblaster?

really, pm me how much

Eat some burritos. You could be assblaster

Mmmmnn. Burritos....

Fun stuff

Small block Chevy?
-
Yep.
I hope this customer sends me pics when it is all assembled..

An oldie but a goodie! Brings back the drag racing days. Had an early Edelbrock Tarantula and a Victor Jr. 4X4 (square single carb, not for a four wheel drive :-D) manifold. Ah yes, another deep black hole I have thrown money into...
Those parts look great. Guy at work had some carbs rebuilt last year in Cali and now I know how they cleaned them. The shine almost looks like someone spray painted them 'chrome' silver, but they are not painted.
-
Fine bead blasting Vs Vapor blasting
(http://www.oem-cycle.com/forum/download/file.php?id=3129)
Even the studs look better
-
That's impressive! The thing looks brand new, maybe even better. Looks like easier clean up as well.
-
We compared a vapor blasted set of KX500 cases to a brand new factory set.
The vapor blasted set looks better.
But to be completely fair, glass blasting aluminum first is great preparation for vapor blasting as it takes a lot less time.
I need to get the oven out and do some baked clear coats to see how well it will hold up...
I vapor blasted and clear coated a stator cover off a old RM125 for a customer and he was blown away..
-
You could say that this is the hub of our vapor blasting activity :-D
(http://www.oem-cycle.com/forum/download/file.php?id=3130)
-
What the?!?! That is a bunch of hubs!
-
I found 4 more fronts today...
Geeze... It's time to dump some of these things...
-
2001 RM250 we are building
(http://www.oem-cycle.com/forum/download/file.php?id=3299)
-
I've heard that vapour/aqua blasting actually seals the alloy and you don't need to clear coat/paint etc. And it even is resistant to fingerprints!
Is this correct??
-
Nope... all lies
It does somewhat seal the surface metal but greasy finger prints ect will still show.
Not as bad as dry blasting methods but still they will show.
Normal finger prints will not show.
We have been experimenting with clear coats but the schools still out on that one.
The biggest problem is fuel resistance.
If you have something you want to experiment with, send it to me and I'll blast it.
But, you have to post your results.
Or if you have a suggestion for a easy experiment I'm open to fresh ideas.
One other point.
If you do Vapor blast a engine, you better keep your hands clean while assembling it :-D
-
I am curious about residue? If a person was planning on welding the item would there be residue from the detergent or beads?
-
I don't want to speak out of turn, but I remember Sandblaster said that the 2007 AF build frame was aqua blasted and the welder commented that it was very easy to weld because it was so clean.
I was smiling when I saw it :-D
My welder said that it was so clean it welded like butter.
It took very little time to heat the material even the thicker pieces.
I guess Vapor blasting was a good idea after all 8-)
http://www.kxriders.com/forums/index.php/topic,13931.75.html (http://www.kxriders.com/forums/index.php/topic,13931.75.html)
-
There are no chemicals, just air, water, and glass beads.
We could use chemicals but don't see a good reason for what we are doing.
So the only possible residue is the glass beads.
The beads we use are very fine so that is a issue when building a motor.
We rinse the parts in water, air dry with a compressor, and then flush with carb cleaner to be sure we got it all.
Welding parts that have been Vapor blasted is awesome.
Our welder Guru is VERY happy with how clean the parts are.
He has never complained about any residue but raves about how good our stuff welds.
-
I just reread all that this morning and STILL did not remember that part... :-D Speak away, I won't remember it anyway obviously!
