At sea level to 1500 ft my 3 KX500's all run perfect with a 168main 55 pilot just as Foxx4Beaver suggested.

58
that's a lot of pilot!...
I'd drop it to a 55 to start...but don't be surprised if you need to drop to a 52, especially if you do a lot of slow speed trails.

Sb...slightly massaged huh ha...sounds nice! info is appreciated not sure if I posted it in the right spot thanks Would like to see pic if u get chance..thanks

ok I rode today the bike was performing greatly did they plug chop at the end of my ride just to get an idea how it was running the plug was a medium to light brown not tan when I got home I pulled the plug and that is that the top of the plug where the wire connects was smashed deformed if you will have never seen anything like it any ideas I'm running a 165 main jet like you guys recommended at sea level with a rad valve and gnarly series fmf with a pro circuit 304 93 pump gas mixed 40 to 1 pilot jet is a 52 stock needle on the third position what smashed the little piece on the top of my plug and do I need to lean it out just a little to get a tan. Plug plz help me out thanks
-
I wouldn't lean it out any more just to be on the safe side.
But I like to run mine a little rich for insurance.
-
Why is the screw on part of my plug trashed??
-
Can you post a pic?
-
Don't know how but the threaded piece of aluminum at tip of plug was smashed can send it in text. Sorry... it's amazing that it could run so good like that I'm very mechanically inclined have never seen such. Thanks for your input it valued

Plug color?.... Whoa!!!!! I wouldn't go any leaner....
Smashed end? looks like it was done before it was put on the bike.
How does the plug wire cap attach to the spark plug, is it loose or tight?
-
Plug end fits loose boot has to be zip tied lightly or it comes off I would have seen it if it was like that when intalled,...... little on the lean side? not white or grey is it ok should i fatten up a little its running very well.and don't ask me how I got those pictures to you haha was definitely an accident

that's about were mine is, maybe a "touch" darker but not by much.
what type of riding are you doing?
if you're on the pipe a lot, then yeah, I would go one size up on the main and maybe even get a needle one step richer(and keep the same clip position you're currently in) to be on the safe side.
...
if you're like me, and do a lot of trails and short bursts of WOT, then I'd just go one size bigger on the main and leave the needle/clip position alone.
and of course get a new plug...everyone has their own preference on plugs, so do a search and see what you find.
-
Cant I make air screw adjustment to fatten it up a little because it's running really good and its not detonating it's crisp also could the top. of the terminal on that plug cause it to run one way or another?
-
as I said...if you do a lot of WOT riding, I would go up one size on the main and maybe try a needle one step richer...adjusting the air screw won't help enough at WOT speeds/RPMs.
the plug boot should "snap" onto the plug...if you're zip-tying it on to keep it on, what does that tell you??...loose connection!...and what do loose connections do??...
get a new plug...or at the very least, change the crushed terminal nut.
you don't "have" to change anything...I'm only suggesting what I'd do to be on the "safer" side...do as you wish.
-
Thank s ! I run ngk plugs and buy 5 @ time ....plug long been changed can't run wot all time obviously although it's what I Prefer one size richer is 168 bike doesn't seem to perform as well may try make needle adjustment. Personally I think bike prefers to run a little on lean side. & the only thing I have to base that on is seat time. If I Start upping the octane Will that make the bike run leaner?
-

what octane rating are you thinking of switching too?...if you use something like VP C-12, it'll have a tendency to run a touch richer, which may be all the difference you need.
As stated earlier by Sandblaster and myself...don't go any leaner.
-
Like 100 octane? not sure but my buddy said it would run leaner and I don't. Want. That
-
100 pump?...or what brand?
I know if I use VP C-12 or Sunoco Cam2, I can, and almost have to go a touch leaner.

+1 when I got my motor back from Tom Morgan it was jetted to run straight VP C-12 and ran great!! Unfortunately I can'tafford that so now iI mix 50/50 C-12 and super pump gas and jetted up to 170main jet. Maybe a bit too rich now but I'mfine with it

I don't run it straight either...no need to....but, out of sheer curiosity, how much are you guys on the western end-zone paying for race juice?
I pay $85 for this 5Gl jug....or $17 a gallon for the C-12...

I pay $92 for the same can! Found a place that doesn't give me to much trouble just sign a paper saying it going in my boat. Dont know bout back east but we can't use it off road out here
-
well...now I don't feel like I'm gettin bent over and plowed quite so hard!
there's no signing anything here, or restrictions...at least not that I've ever heard of.
I buy it right at my Kawie dealer...and on occasion at the local races right off the VP truck.
