I have a 93 kx 500 with the blue forks , unfortunutly they are fairly destroyed internally , i also have a set off a 98 but no tripple clamps and they wont fit the 93 clamps . However i also have a 97 250 that needs crank seals . So my question is will the front fork ( complete ) bolt onto the 500 or do i have to do a stem swap or different bearings to make it work .
-
Turns out boredom took over . The bottom all seems to work right however the top of the stem on the 250 is larger and wont work with the top bearing . Is there a bearing number out there that works for this conversion .
-
As far as I know there is no other bearing conversion that will work.
I did a fair bit of research on it a few years ago and found diddly squat.
Here is the bearing interchange.
FORK HOLDER BEARINGS (LOWER)
FITS 74-76 78-91 KX250, 80-81 KX420, 83-04 KX500, 83-94 KDX200, 81-84 KDX250, 84-87 KXT250 - 92116-1008
FORK HOLDER BEARINGS (UPPER)
FITS 84-87 KXT250, 74-76 78-91 KX125 KX250, 83-04 KX500, 75-76 KX400, 80-81 KX420, 78-84 KL250, 80-84 91-94 KDX250, 83-06 KDX200, 97-05 KDX200, 79-80 94-96 06-10 KLX250, 93-96 KLX650R & C - 92047-017
You do have some option.
You can use any year kx500 fork and corresponding triple clamp on your bike.
Or, you can get a steering stem from Emig racing and press it into a set of triple clamps from a KX450F and run something new, perhaps even a set from a KX250F but I'm not certain. But, a call to Emig would fix that.

I am trying really hard not to spend money the 500 is destined for a ktm frame once i find a decent deal . Maybe i should check out ebay again for a 97 an up tripple clamp since i already have the forks and wheel .
-
Hey, someone has to help keep the economy afloat
-
You wouldnt happen to have a set of tripple clamps and stem for the 96 and up kyb forks for a 500 for sale do you ?i would rather purchase from a forum member than a possible kx 500 clamp from ebay that turns out to be from an xr80 .

Sorry buddy.... All gone....
When will I get more?
It's like a pawn shop... I never know what is coming in the door next :|

Beware putting the 500 in a ktm use latest model possible as any ktm with pds rear shock or no link is going a step backwards ,I ridden heaps of them even the endure models on a ride all the ktm you like day ,don't like the rear suspension at all, go link all for get it , by the way , i have rode ktm from 03 to 14 models that's my 2 cents worth.Even the forks need major work.
-
I have ridden ktms with the linkless suspension and a newer sx with linkage . Both were good bikes
-
The enduro models blow threw there stroke way to easy front and back as for the early models pds bikes could not soak up the bumps very well just as well terry hays from aust designed the telesocopic needle for pds ,they were half ok after that. We test a lot of bikes at my own track back to back ,just trying to help with advice,we do a lot of suspension and other mods to all sought of dirt bikes.
-
Well i swapped stems into the 250 clamp and everything worked great . Unfortunutly now she wont rev out even with new jets :( i guess i have to pull it apart again
-
What altitude are you riding at and what jetting did you use?
-
I have not ridden a KTM that I liked. Link, no link, mod, no mod, lots of mod, new, old, 2 stroke, 4 stroke, big, little.
I really want to like them but they are making it hard when they suck. I don't really even like working on them, and i do, a lot. The non-link rear shock comes off easy.
-
Has anyone made a front fork swap from a Honda CRF? I´m planning such swap for my kx500 -90 and it would be nice to hear some tips if someone had done it before..

I always knew you weren't quite right in the head
My 640 KTM is heaven

What model crf .Just did a gold valve for a 13 kx450 air fork, rode back to back against std bike ,an improvement on slapper landings and harshness gone , I herd if you change the rebound piston to it improves them even more as some say the rebound piston doesn,t flow enough,we will test this set up down the track and let you know.

The 640 is a great bike. The 950 SE is on my to buy list. The offroad woods and desert racing I do, not a fan at all. You would not like your 640 in most of the places I ride. I fly in helicopters for a living, dirtbikes are pretty humdrum in comparison.
