Title: Worn head gasket -> worn water pump seal?

Hi,

A friend of mine had a defective head gasket in his ktm 125sx.
The water came out of the exhaust valve's overflow.
The strange thing is that the water was also pressed into the gearbox.
So, would you think it's possible that it was just pressed past the seal, or that the seal was damaged by the pressure?

Or do you think that just the waterpump seal was damaged, and the water in the oil steamed up into the exhaust valve via it's mechanism?
