Title: Is this bad? Output shaft splines...
Post by: dinkyguitar on April 24, 2014, 01:43:16 PM
I took off my sprocket and it looks like the output shaft splines are worn.

Is this normal and/or excessive?

It's definitely wore but if it was mine I would put a new sprocket on it and let the dirt fly....

Only other way is to tear it all down and get a new one or Tig weld it up and 're machine it.

When you put a sprocket on it and revolve it clockwise and counter clockwise how much slop is there?

Just wanted to get an opinion...

With the sprocket, it has about 1/4" play. If I install the sprocket reversed it's a little less.

I'm planning on replacing it anyway.

Motorsport.com says they'll ship in 3-6 days, whatever that means or, I'll see if I can get a good used one.

1/4" in. meaning, I note the position of a sprocket tooth, turn the sprocket and mark the distance.
