Title: Ohlins forks and shock on '97 KX500?
Post by: joko on April 12, 2014, 01:01:38 AM
Was considering upgrading to new Ohlins
Suspension instead of getting a KX500AF?
Not sure if Ohlins makes it for the KX500,
but if they do, it might be worth it for $4500 or so.
Might be able to upgrade the front brake with it...

4500$ is alot . I would just upgrade to a newer 450 fork with a conversion tripple clamp . You should be able to pick one up for around 500$

Getting ready to re-spring, bush, seal, and gold valve my 01 kx500.
It may not be as good as a Ohlins set up but I could buy another bike and set it up nice for the money I will save.
And... would I really go that much faster with the ohlins?
I'm skeptical.

I agree with blaster ,and if the valving is wrong the ohlins would not be any better,Gold valve front and back than buy a 270mm oversize front brake kit ,and you still have thousands left over for other mods.We have had good results using skf fork seals for less friction and last longer than stock. You could also get the outer fork coating for even less friction and wow factor.Suspension is about less friction ,correct spring rates and the right valving for you.
