Title: computer aided design

I have been interested in this for quite a while, but I haven't had any experience in drawing since high schools Technical drawing classes.
If you read the hype around each cad program it gets very confusing very quickly, unless you are an engineer. What programs are people out there toying with at the moment? and why?
It would be great to do a quick drawing and email it of to someone and have it made and posted  back to me.
Does Larry use cad cam?

AutoCAD 2000.   What I leaned on in collage. Used at work.  And have a pirated full version of.

MS Paint is the computer version of finger painting  :?
Is there anything that is I pad compatable?
Or something super easy so that this old heavy browed humanoid can learn to use.

Currently use Cadkey.
It really depends on why you need it.
If it's for vocation better look at Autocad and at what most designers and engineers are using for your desired field.
If its to satisfy your own requirements, free is a good place to start:

solidworks here. love it. nice graphical interface that isnt a pain to stare at for hours on end. super powerful as well.

Thats funny cos i once subscribed to the solidworks email just to see what it was all about, i started getting telephoned from the sales team like once a week to buy their product I tried to tell them that i live 800ks from the closest town and that my knuckles drag on the ground and i think with the thing between my legs not my head (simple,bushy feral stupid) but they weren't listening to me.  it got so annoying i ended up giving them a mouth full of experlatives just to get rid of them. But i will admit the tutorial videos did look good.
