While taking a part my cylinder I broke the left side power valve. I don't think I'll find a replacement. If that's the case, how screwed am I.
I thought of pinning it closed but figured someone would have a better way to go.

I wouldn't give up completely....they are discontinued, but that doesn't mean you won't be able to find one on e-bay, whether used or NOS....or maybe someone on here might have one to hook you up with. Depending where the break is, you might be able to have it welded back together.

agreed with foxx...
2 months ago i caught on ebay a brandnew oem cylinderhead for the 86-88 kx500 also discontinued since long times... i wish you the same lucky finding on the powervalves... :-)

and for the case you dont find one, you will need a good mashine-shop, that is able to make a new one for you with the measures of your broken valve...

Is it just the one valve you need?
No operating rod or anything else?
Is your set made from steel or aluminum?
-
Just the left side valve. I broke it at where the cylinder meets the stem. It is aluminium.
Welding seems like maybe the thing to do. Warm weather is right around the corner and I want to get this thing together.
Thanks for the advise

Are the 88 valves different than the 89 up? Does 88 have the 3 kips valves?

88's only had the side drum valves...no center valve.
they are machined a little different too...88 and earlier there was an oval/oblonged shaped hole in the drum valves...89 and beyond where notched out on one side....if you look at a Kawie parts diagram you'll see what I mean.

86-88 are quite the same engines with the 2peace exhaust valves, except the clutch and countershaft- change in 88, that it makes to a little bastard-motor .
i found out, that there are some guys out there, who fitted a 89-2004 cylinder on a 86-88 bottom.

I've got an aluminum set with a broken valve.
I could probably donate a spare valve and pass some good karma on to you :-)
I've got brand new valves if your interested as well.
