Title: slipping kickstarter!
Post by: 91kx on January 15, 2005, 09:26:40 AM
Does anyone know what is causing the lever from engaging? It seems the colder it gets the more this happens. When the bike is warm,it doesn't do it much.Is it that small spring on the spline that needs to be replaced.I haven't taken it apart, only looked in the manual(Clymer).
   Thanks,Elmer!!

Elmer, yes, if you replace both springs, the small one in the back and the quite large one, it will fix it. Or change the oil. Usally the type of oil causes the gears to stick.

Changing oil - to a lower grade oil, like 10-40 or less. Depending on how cold it is where you ride. Go for a multigrade oil. Check out some of the threads in the forum regarding the different religions about oil. One thing you should avoid is oils with silicon as it ruins your clutch function.
