Title: Looking for advise-input

I recently purchased a 1989 KX500 and I have a few questions:
Where can I get specs like spark plug type and gap and ignition timing.
What type of carb and reeds are best suited for this bike, I plan on woods riding so I'm looking for bottom and midrange smooth as possible power band any help will be appreciated.

Get yourself a Clymer Service Manual as you won't be sorry.

I would use your stock carb with a reed spacer, Rad valve, flywheel weight, Gnarly Woods pipe, and near stock gearing depending on exactly what your riding in and your skill level. A nice set of Bark Busters and a skid plate are food for thought..

I have a pretty decent Gnarly Woods pipe that'll never go back on my bike if you're interested...it's just been sitting in the corner collecting dust for a couple years.

Thanks for the input I have down loaded 2 manuals from kxrider that a member posted and I am going to be cleaning my carb and checking the jet sizes also I have ordered a v-force reed block and moose racing reed spacer when I bought the bike it was in pieces and the guy I got it from had bought all new plastic, graphics a gnarly pipe and a silencer so I decided before I bought anything I would get it running so I put the motor in hooked up the electrical and radiator put some oil in the crank case put the tank on with a little fresh gas/oil kicked it about 3 times just half hearted kicks trying to get a little gas in the jug but it fired right up but I noticed gas running out of the carb but not from the overflow could not tell were really so while I'm waiting on my parts I will clean and adjust the carb. I think I will wait until I have it together and running before I make anymore purchases like a flywheel weight.
