Title: 88 KX forks
Post by: splime738 on March 01, 2014, 01:18:36 AM
Were the forks on the 88 KX's that much better than the 85's as I have a set of125  88's which would go on to my 250 85, but no front wheel or brakes for the 88, would it be worth the time and effort as the calliper is definitely different

frontwheel and disc and the steering stem is the same from 85 to 88...
 i have ´88 forklegs in my 83 kx250 and a 91 brake caliper with a handmade adapter ...

only real diference between the 83-88 forks are the lower tubes with the changed mountings over the years...
125 springs would be a little bit to soft for the 250-weight,

Are the 88's cartridge type and if so is the operation much better than the 85 is what I was getting at. I have seen Jerry Robbins plenty of times.

like i said, no big diferences between 85-88. logical thinking says newer fork = better performance..  :-)  but compare it your self with this two links..
88..

85..

you can always play with spring rates and a little bit higher or lower oil-level in the fork for better damping... less oil = softer, more oil= harder.

Cheers motopunk, will go with the 85's as they are ready to go, might upgrade the brake caliper to a twin pot like you have.

i made the adapter for the double piston caliper from a 6mm steel plate, because the oem tokico adapters of the 82-88 have the same thickness. the pins could be taken from the newer nissin adapter.
