Title: 2004/2005 differences
Post by: Reddy on February 26, 2014, 06:26:09 PM: Just wondering if anyone knows if the coils on a 2004 and 2005 are the same size.
As the coil on my 2004 doesn't seem to want to fit into my new frame.

On a 125 they are the same.
But, the 125 and 250 coils are different from each other..

So, is the 2003 frame the same as 2004, is it ok to run 2004 swinging arm etc? Is there anyway of checking that the swinging arm is actually 2004?

Post by: zz3gmc on March 02, 2014, 02:29:06 PM: 03 and 04 frames are different. The linkage changed from 03 to 04 and the 04 swing arm will not work with the 03 frame. Although the 03 and 04 are similar there are many changes between the 2 years.

Are the air box boots different from 2004 to 2005? As mine has fallen a few centre metres short! Or is there a difference in sub frame :?

Post by: zz3gmc on March 25, 2014, 11:49:18 AM: There is a difference between 03,04 and 05. The 04 airbox boot is longer than either the 03 and 05-07. I currently have a 03, 04, 05 and a 07 in my garage. The airboxs are different also. You need a 04 box and boot to get it to fit. Im not sure if the 04 boot will fit the 05-07 airbox.

Can't believe this.. He sold it me as a full rolling chassis. Anyone know where I can get a complete airbox and boot? Or want to swap for mine... Which must be 2005 onwards I guess?!?

Please tell me the subframes are the same...

Post by: zz3gmc on March 26, 2014, 11:12:05 AM: Your bike is an 04 so you need a 04 airbox and boot. The KX250 was changed extensively in 05. Narrower frame, completely new engine etc. You can probably mix and match parts from different years but nothing is guaranteed to work. There may be alot of trial and error involved.

If anyone sees one up for grabs let me know... They're about £180 here in the UK. Plus I need a fuel tap thrnnit can all go together!

Post by: zz3gmc on March 31, 2014, 04:01:24 PM: After looking at your frame pics more closely I noticed that your coil mount brackets are in the wrong place for a 04. Someone moved your brackets to the right side of the frame. The large coil is correct for a 04 but it mounts above the cylinder. Also it looks like your front motor mounts have been moved. They are not even the factory mounts. I took some pics and will post them for you.

A quick comparison and it looks like I've been given a kxf pedal and master cylinder.

Does anyone know if the cylinder will work with the correct pedal? If not... Will a 2003 kx 250 cylinder fit? As a breaker in the UK has an 03 cylinder.

Post by: Reddy on April 05, 2014, 06:56:42 AM: I had a 250af which has the 2004 engine in. I decided to go back to steel and found a breakers that was selling this rolling chassis.. Apparently it was all 2004 and the only modification was the top frame engine mount!!!

As you can probably tell.. Looks like he's got rid of loads of parts from and kx 2003 onwards!!!

Its been apart for around 4 years with parts scattered all over the garage! Its been a bit of a challenge but we are on the home stretch and hope to fire it up tonight. Good to see you got the airboot straightened out!
