Absolutely...I go to Englishtown,NJ every year, and last year was the very 1st year they included Epping,NH into the series...I've been going there for local races with my dad since the late 70s.

It's all a state of mind anyway. Anybody still riding the K5 is young.

Been to several Gatornationals in Gainesville FL back in the 90's. When the top fuel dragsters and funny cars are at full throttle it's "priceless" to see it from 100ft.  The sound/vibrations and smell.   Just a Rush!

My brother and I raced a lot on the street and strip back in the late 60's and early 70's. One fun memory was during the Nat's here we were at a local crankshaft shop that was very well known. The owner (we knew him and his son pretty well) was standing with three guys so we walked over. Found ourselves in a circle BSing with Prudhomme, McEwen and Garlits. Just regular guys that liked hotrods.
Have a bud that was doing the circuit with an alcohol funny car. Last race I went to he was there but it was kind of sad. The 'little' guys don't have all the fancy stuff. He had been scraping by on the road and racing for 20+ years and he did not look like it was all that fun...  :|

That's a pretty good bunch to bench race with.  I miss the old days of drag racing with different cars, match racing, and true innovators.  Racing today is a homogenized bunch of cars that you can only tell apart by the stickers.  They don't allow thinking outside the box, and I think the popularity of the sport suffers.  I do like the factory efforts with the COPO Camaros and the Factory Mustangs and Challengers.  At least you can tell what's racing and cheer for your favorite brand.

Has anybody done any drag racing?  It's a lot of fun, especially bracket racing.

that's cool...I shook Garlits hand in Englishtown back in '06....him and Prudhomme are the legends...and Mr. Force is the next legend, with 16 Funny Car championships...I don't think ANYONE will ever beat that.

A few years ago Paul Paige and Mike Dunn, the commentators did a break down on what the "big guys" spend on a season, with parts, fuel and what not....and came up with $4.5million to compete in full season....and that was a few years ago.

We did bracket racing. I still have one of our old race engines and trani under my bench. Has not run since what, '79? Keep thinking about putting it in something, but then I think of the work involved, storing it,,,, Man, I AM getting old!  :-o
Starting to think about bikes that way too. Got a few new ones. Just check the tires and chain and go. Kind of nice.  :-P

I sold my hot rod to help pay for my business. There are days I kick myself in the butt for that one. Usually right after getting cussed out by a white haired old lady.  :-D

I made it to winternationals last february and I made it to the last race of the season in november. Saw passes at 3.700 hell yea!!! gotta get sean to sign my t shirt from the event. Just gets expensive especially when you're paying for your girls ticket too and of course beers are like 7 or 8 bucks. then food. its an expensive weekend. This weekend I'm not gonna make it down there for winternationals but I sure as hell will be watching. I hope to make it to the race in november and I'm gonna pay a little extra for the tailgating parking place. i want to bring a bbq and all the beer. those guys always look like they're having fun, and its closer to the entrance anyway. maybe we could organize a kxriders tailgate there for the fall.

I used to love Top Fuel and Funny Car! When they went 1000ft I got a little ticked off! I know these guys are back up there again even at 1000ft but where would they be now without that rule change? Does it matter if you wad up at 300mph vs 320mph. You're still going to become particulate matter at either speed. The politicians at the NHRA basically tried to put a speed limit on racing. It's not racing if there's a speed limit. To make an extreme analogy you might as well let the cars sit on the line in neutral with bricks on the accelerator pedals and see who's engine blows first and call that drag racing!

Beer post!
