Title: kx500 tripple clamps,...where are they at?
Post by: husky333 on January 23, 2014, 10:07:38 AM
Hi fellas,

i am building a tricked out 2001 kx500 for the upcoming classic and vintage dirt bike show over here In England. I have most of the parts already but dont seem to be able to find a set of tripple clamps that come with the stem already pressed in. Where should i go?

I tried  Scar, RG3, Procircuit, Ride Eng. (Im still waiting for a reply from BRP. )

Let me know what you think.  When its done i will post some pics, so far i have a Procircuit "works pipe", Ohlins rear shock, handmade tapered swingarm, Sunline clutch perch, Easton fat bars, trick custom graffix, Warp9 wheels, handmade Carbon fibre silencer, carbon fibre mudflap, custom seat cover, loads of anodised do dads to bling it up.

If you go to "Contact Us" from the left side column/menu...all the ordering and shipping info is right there.

It is easiest to call, real cool to call and talk to Jeff Emig's dad.  Very nice guy.

ok, i will look again, Thanks. ( my computer skills are lower than my 8 year old son!)

Once the bike is fully built up and all the graffix are on i will post pics.  I have a small stall at the Classic and Vintage show in Telford England this year. It is the biggest vintage/Evo and classic bike show in Europe. The show is on 22/23 Feb. There will be plenty of cool stuff there, anyone wanting pics of the build up and the show itself should log on to the Vintage - MX Trax forum. Its much like this one, but people with interests in all kind of different makes of bikes post on there. It has a very useful Vintage swapshop that is free to use once you are logged in.

Incidentally, the bike i am building(over here in England) was bought from a guy in Pennsylvania USA. I buy and sell/trade/build late model kx500s.

Well i got in touch with Emig Racing, and for what i thought to be a very reasonable price(compared to stuff over here in England) i ordered a set of clamps. I should have them middle of next week, just in time to fit to the bike before the show. Cant wait.

I just managed to get a few carbon fibre parts to trick it up some more. Its gonna lookgood. But probably not for the purist.i would have had the frame powder coated but after the show I am selling it and didnt want to hide the fact it is a low hour bike. I am talking to the carbon fibre people over here about the possibility of building a monoqocue subframeand airbox. It will be VERY expensive to have a mold msde. Also, I am talking with Scalvini Italy about having a bunch of kx500 front plpes made, their stuff is pure art. They should look great with the carbon fibre and cnc silencers I have had made. Graffix and seat cover are making me nervous as I havnt got them yet.
I hope to have it built and ready for the camera by thursday.

wow...it's getting very interesting now....I've always liked/wanted carbon fiber silencers strictly for cosmetic reasons...but they are pricey....could buy a whole system for what a silencer costs.
monocoque air box construction??...d**n, you really want this thing to stand above the rest!

hope you get it all together in time!...lookin forward to seeing this.

Ok, well, the clamps are taking forever to clear UK customs and as a result i had to take the bike to the show with stock ones on. It still looked cool to me though. Plenty of admirers and people drooling over it. I hope to have my cokebottle swingarm by the end of March and i am still negotiating with the carbon fibre people about the monocoque subframe. Hope you like it??

Be gentle with the comment(http://)

On photobucket open the pic and on the left you will see a list of address formats, click on direct and it will say copied, then click on the image link, the second from the left, square with a small portrait and it will come in the reply window, then past the link in the middle and then post.

a friend of mine has a graffix company here in England called MotoShack.  I havnt fitted the Emig clamps yet, i need to get a bearing kit first. I have got  one hand made swingarm similar to the Karl Landrus onesand the second should be built by the end of the month.   I am waiting for my Alloy factory replice tanks to arrive. Also i just got a metal shop involved with making the monocoque subframe/airboxes. The aim is to have two of these ready for Farleigh Castle VMXDN in sept.  Im still looking into the carbon fibre monocoque subframe/airbox, but its going to be very expensive.  And finally,....if i have any money left,...i hope to have Scalvini cone pipes on both bikes too.

I could use a sponsor or a lottery win.

KXP is my name for the parts i am deseigning/selling for kx 500s. At the moment i sell those alloy ones for £110 in England. I have got a few carbon fibre ones too, they look awesome!!  The carbon ones are £160. I will try emailing a pic to Neil and see if he will upload it for me.

The alloy one is working ok, i havnt done a dyno test or anything as technical as that, but i sold a few now and no complaints. It sounds deep and crisp. I am just trying to offer something different for the kx500 other than FMF/Procircuit.

the carbon ones are fixed using  stainless rubber mounted straps, much like a modern road bike silencer or some of the modern mx silencers. I havnt collected the straps yet.  I will look into the cost of shipping to the USA in case anyone is interested.

The carbon ones will look super cool on a street legal Motard or trick AF conversion.

Ok, i just checked with the post office and to package/ship a carbon silencer to Plymouth Massachusetts is $26 via Air Mail, takes 5-7 days.

I thought that was quite good, it cost me $120 to ship the Emig clamps over here and pay import duty!!

Import duty sucks!   Even when my dad in San Clemente CA sends us birthday gifts for his grandchildren we have to pay duty!!  Only way around it is for me to get stuff boxed up and put into a container with the kx500s i buy and ship it that way. I dont pay duty,... but its a very slow boat!

oh yeah... here in germany since 2009 they take the full price (article +shipping-costs) for calculating the import duty. under 22,- euro it is free. 22-150 euro you have to pay 19% . over 150,- euros the 19% plus another tax for the state (calculated from the 119% ) best example was my kx500 motor in 2011: it started with 450,-us-dollar + the shipping costs on ebay  . at least i payed roundabout 800,-euros = 1000 usd for all...  the shipping and import duty was more ,as what i paid for the engine itself...

so i look now first in uk and netherlands for parts, that i could not find in germany... in the eu is no import duty to pay, only the shipping costs...

all you could do is measure both stems and then for the case, that it is diferent, you could look for german SKF - bearings .. there is a wide range of bearing sizes that you could use with same outer diameter and many diferent inner diameters...
