Title: Keihen PWK 38 Airstriker Carb on KX500B1?
Post by: VMXSteve on December 20, 2013, 01:06:12 PM
I want to replace / upgrade my old original Mikuni VM40 carb on my 1985 KX500B1.
JD Jetting can supply a new Keihen PWK38 Airstriker Carb complete with their excellent red & blue needles that "may fit"

Has anyone tried this and if so is a a simple bolt on solution or do I need to modify the airbox, use adapter rings etc...

Thanks Steve

Fitted my new JD Jetting supplied PWK 38 Air Striker Carb to my 1985 KX500B1,
Simple bolt on replacement installation.
Bike started second kick, and runs much better, HOWEVER the new carb has the controls / adjustments on the left side, hidden completely behind the airbox!   This is a major problem and I am gutted as it is SO MUCH better than old Mikuni TM40.

Yeah, I have people ask me about swapping carbs quite a bit and that is one of the things I tell them they need to consider..
So, are you gonna live with it or get another carb?

As long as the needle jet is not worn to the point you have to shove a telephone pole through it.....like mine is.
