Title: New member in the UK
Post by: karlosthejackel on December 06, 2013, 06:07:08 PM
Hi to all. Had a wad of cash sat indoors that I was itching to spend on something so ive thrown it at a very low use 92 KX500. Ive had many bikes over the years and currently race a '13 KTM 350 in enduro events....im an average rider id say! Anyway ive got this new kwacker and she arrives on Wednesday hopefully where I will determine wether to strip and rebuild or just clean her up for summer.

Im on the search for parts......Hmmmm where do I start

The only thing I know id like at the moment are the fork guards in white, front disc guard in white and some frame protectors. She is bare as well so looking for the full set of period factory graphics.

Oh and a set of renthals with a brace. Its got non braced bars on at the moment. Any pointers would be great. ive been smashing the net for stuff but the bike aint arrived as yet!

Cheers for the reply!

here's a couple new things...

fork guards
http://www.ebay.com/itm/UFO-Plastics-Fork-Protectors-White-KX-125-250-500-91-93-/190973739310?pt=Motorcycles_Parts_Accessories&hash=item2c76ec012e&vxp=mtr

frame guards
http://www.ebay.com/itm/WORKS-CONNECTION-FRAME-GUARDS-fits-Kawasaki-KX-500-1988-04-/350944972607?pt=Motorcycles_Parts_Accessories&hash=item51b5f34f3f&vxp=mtr

graphics
http://www.ebay.com/sch/i.html?_trksid=p3984.m570.l1311.R1.TR2.TRC1.A0.Xkx500+gra&_nkw=kx+500+graphics&_sacat=0&_from=R40

take your time and shop around....you should be able to find some decent deals.

I don't know how tall you are, but it seems to be the taller riders(over 5'10") complain about finding a tall enough set of bars.I'm 5'11" and found the Renthal RC High bars suited me perfect...but again, take your time and use the search option on here and see what some of the other guys are happy with.

as for the white front disc guard you're looking for...Kawie discontinued them quite awhile ago....so you'll have to spend some time on e-bay looking for one...or buy a Devol, which would actually give better protection than the stock one.

here's a few...

Yea I seen them but the just don't have the "original" look. Its not that urgent I guess. Ive got fork sliders now. I might have to wait til after xmas to keep spending or wife might get a bit twitchy if she aint got any presents to open on Christmas morning!!

Im back I hope....
Basically I bought this bike from a bonafied shop. It arrived and it wasn't what id paid for including the cracked crank cases. The dealer took it back this was 4 months ago. Anyway its coming back this weekend having supposed to have a load of money thrown at it inc engine rebuild, new plastics, graphics and some other bits and bobs I found wrong.

Heres to hoping

Wow! That sucks! I am surprised you would go for it again (if I read that right) after he 'fixed' it. I always hate buying 'sight unseen'. Never know what you will end up with.

Cheers buddy. Thinking of replacing seat cover but that is the original and its been there for 22 years it sort of breaks my heart to remove it. Got some almost new replacement excel rims and going to 18" on the rear

I wouldn't remove the seat cover if it's the original one. Just buy another complete used seat off e-bay, then you can throw on any seat cover you want.
I have an original 2000 complete seat that is in brand new condition wrapped up and stored that I bought off e-bay a couple years ago. The bike came with an aftermarket black gripper seat cover that I didn't like, so I put a cover on that one.
