So, I currently have an 07 kx250. I used to have an 04 kx250, which had amazing power for trail riding (all low and mid.) The 07 is all mid/top.
I found the port map for the 04 from the guys in Canada (thanks), but I'm having a hard time finding a port map for the 07.
My thought is to understand what the differences are and see if I can get my engine guy to mimic the one in the other...
Thoughts? Or any idea where to get the 07 port map?
Thanks.

Don't know who has the port mapping available but a reed spacer, fly wheel weight, woods pipe, and lower gearing should make a big difference...
-
All of that stuff does help- but it doesn't change how the engine is designed to work... I want to change how the engine is designed to work and then tune from there. :)
And my favorite sneaky cheat is to run the super heavy Bridgestone tubes in the wheels to increase the flywheel effect of the wheels, which is tremendous.
-
How does the increased gyroscopic effect change your braking and cornering?
-
Trail riding nasty crap- so it doesn't effect braking and turning much at all. It helps a ton trying to roll over stuff in first and second gear.
If you were going fast- maybe MX- you would feel it a lot. That much of a difference on a road race bike (going lighter) would cost a lot. And be worth every penny. But for what I ride, it's worth it. I also run a big back tire- helps with pinch flats, too.

I have a porting map for 06 to 08 kx250 i found ,cant remenber were i got it ,but i got it.A kawi one to,

Could you email that to dave@stmsuspension.com ?
That would be awesome.

The cylinders are not even close to the same, the 04 is more like the 99-02 ish whereas the 05, 06, and 07 is completly different. I know what you mean on the power delivery, nothing, nothing, then wham, I don't like it either, my son loves it. I would find somebody that specializes in Kawasaki, and see if they have something to give you more low end, might take a pipe, or add to the headpipe something out of the ordinary to get your desired powerband. I tried to have a 310 made out of mine, that cylinder and head are in a box in the attic, it never made 5 minutes without blowing up, that happened twice, there are to many ports and once you punch it out they get to close together.
-
Dave, i notice your chasing more low to mid,the kawi port map only benifits top end ,last 1000 rpm or so.Get hold of a eric gorr book moto-cross and off road performance handbook it tells how you can change powerbands etc.If you still want the port map you have to message me direct as it 4 pages long, and im only a c grade on computers? So it would be mail only.

I shimmed the powervalve governor spring and retarded the timing on my 07. Im also running 13/53 gearing a Gnarly/Q silencer, Boyesen Reeds and a 11oz fww. Had it out to WV this Memorial day weekend and did a bunch of technical, rocky hill climbing and there was a big difference from before the pv shim and timing adjustments. More bottom and a smoother transition into the mid. Still hit hard compared to a 04 but much better.
-
I haven't retarded the timing yet, nor shimmed the PV spring- and it's got a PC pipe, so that's not helping anything.
I'm going to try a bit more, but I'm afraid that if it doesn't start coming around it's going to turn into something that rhymes with 300XC...

300 xc ok ,but if you want grunt kx5 in a later frame with the right mods is great in the tight stuff ,punt one myself in very tight bush many a time, vibration is the killer but that been fixed with a fresh balance crank the 300 doe s not fill any faster than a good 250 in my view .I notice 2nd and 3rd gear is slightly higher than 02 model as well may be they could swap to make it easier to ride,i sure someone here would know, i always reckon 3rd was a touch high on these model esspecially in deep sand.Did you see the test on the k5 engine in the 250 sx frame in mxa mag, they loved it .

Thats why I bought the 04, I heard the front end was way better on the 04 for tight woods ridding as well.

I must be getting old. I just want a bike that runs without having to change absolutely everything- so maybe I should stop buying MX bikes and trying to use them on the trail. :)
And I just sent you a PM with my mailing address- thanks in advance for the map, it'll be interesting to see how it compares to the torque monster '04.
