I spoke with my cousin which has close ties to the big shots of the dirt bike world earlier today......He spoke with Danny LaPorte and Don Emler (owners of FMF) about the jigs for the Gnarly KX500 pipes that work with the Zip Ty tank. Danny said that they can't sell the jigs because they have patent numbers but there is a possibility that if enough people need the pipes they might pull out the jigs and make a run of pipes. My cousin is gonna try to find out a minimum number of pipes that FMF might need ordered to encourage FMF to make these pipes. No promises but I need to know how many of you might be interested in getting these pipes. Keep in mind that there are some of you that might need to replace a damaged pipe, there are those of you who might just need to have an extra pipe in case you damage your existing pipe and there are those of you who know that the Zip Ty tank is still available and this would be your chance to get the Zip Ty set up for you KX500. Again, no promises but I'm sure that if there is enough of a demand, the FMF boys might do this for us.

The pipes of course will go to the old KX500 loyal owners such as we have here. I wonder if TY has any interest in stocking a few, and since there is no charge to advertise here, this might be the next best place for them to move an inventory. This will cause a short lived run,,, and I'm sure they are not interested in a big supply of outdated pipes on the shelf.
Another question: Do these lowboys fit or can they be tweaked to fit the A-frames or Steel-framed conversions??? If so I need 2 and we know there is a maybe a larger market for that use.

im down for one

I doubt that these pipes can be used on conversion models.....the pipe/silencer junction on the zip ty pipe ends up too high........same reason that service honda kx500 pipes (cr500 pipe made to fit kx cylinder) won't fit the kx500 with the zip ty tank.

I'll take one

BUMP.....
so far I have requests for about 11 pipes.....I don't know if this will be good enough....come on people....spread the word to everyone thru PM, phone call, smoke signals, etc.......
I promise I will do my best to "suck up" to whom ever I need to at FMF to get these pipes.

Assuming the prices are comparable to other FMF products with a slight premium for a "limited run", I would like to purchase two.
-

-

Still waiting to speak with my cousin.....he is on a 2 week long ride down in Baja with Kendal Norman and a bunch of other factory desert rats......Lucky bastard!! I'm not gonna give up on this unless I get a definite "no" from FMF.
-
got me a 500 on the way, ill take 2 now.... :-D
-
Got a small update.....People at FMF have been discussing the possibility of making some pipes for us.....I think I will get a final answer here soon....Everyone cross your fingers!!

Man I'd love to have another, but it's not in the budget currently unfortunately. I may be able to get one by the time this comes to fruition though, so I'll keep my eye on this.

Have not heard anything yet........I'm gonna put the bug back into the ear of those involved. Believe me, I'm trying.
-
squeaky wheel gets the wheel, appreciate you doing this
-
I'll take one, if they are going to do a limited run, can we request them to do it with a slightly heavier gauge of steel plate, the reason I use PC pipes is that they are thicker & therefore a lot more resilient against dings.

Mines same thickness as a gnarly pipe

I have a big crack in the K5 exhaust where the bend is coming out of the engine . Is it worth fixing / been reading about CR 500 pipes and Pro Circuit and Zip Ty Pipes. Which one works the best on an 87 ? With minimal mods . bing bing .

Any updates from fmf?
-
Non........I don't know if they are gonna go for it..........I'll give it another try before I give up
-
thanks buddy, sure would be cool to get new pipes.
